I talked to a cigar shop owner yesterday and asked his opinion of the Oliva O maduro's. He said "they're good if you're an old man with no taste buds left. They're terrible!"

Many cbid members speak highly of these smokes. Are they "old men with no taste buds" or are these good smokes?

Hopefully no offense was taken by my above comment.

I love Maddie O's...and haven't met many people who disagree with me.

I have noticed that the Ole has a bit more taste than the other sizes. However, that's me, and I am weird. It's definitely worth a shot...I think you'll like it.

Hey Dude,
Your smokeshop owner, doesn't know what he is talking about. I have recieved several, for my birthday. Every one, that I have tried has been quite tasty. I have tastebuds, and am only 39. I have found that many smokeshops will give you bogus info, especially about cigars they don't carry, in hopes that they can steer you to a product that they have, or can make a better profit on.

Well, just by the owners suggestions, i would say he/she was steering you toward fuller bodied 'gars...

It really comes down to what you are looking for...the RyJ maddies i likes....and you can't go wrong with Padron...

Hey jrc-
Your tastes are probably going to be alot different than his.I havent been smoking that long and love trying out new things. There are smokes that are called dog rockets by some on this board, but had to try them for myself and found out that a few of these are to my liking! The high priced cigars such as opus may not be to my liking.I cant find these kind of cigars around here and places on line are usually sold out,so if i never get to try them...so be it!!I just have fun trying out the other hundreds of brands that are out there. So if your local cigar guy is trying to push something else off on to you then i say,buy from CI!!
Happy hunting!

Tell him to keep his opinions to himself and that your father-in-law is their vice president of distribution.

Nobody can tell you what you like. I'm done telling people what I like...figure it out for yourself!

what others have said, jrc; god made chocolate and vanilla so everyone doesnt have to have the same thing.

i see people shouting from the rooftops the praises of this or that cigar that i would cross the street to avoid smoking.

shop owners seem to be especially bad about this.

Every one has different taste and as long as there are people out there that don't like the O's then Great cause then there's more for those of us that do..But in defense of Shop owners if you get a good one he will tell you every one has different taste what I do is tell the person what My thoughts are on a certin Cigar and then show them my Boxes of rings. There are two of them. The I like Box and the Some else's like Box. A good shop owner will explain why a ring made it into one of those two boxes as far as his taste is concerned, and then offer you one to try if he really wants your business..But I really want my Local Business so I bend over back wards (manner of speaking) for the guy off the street.. Just because I do or Don;t like some thing doesn't mean it's bad or good it's just what my taste is.. I'm fairly new at alot of the brands we find in here and I buy alot of sampler packs just to try them out before I buy the Boxes...One of these days my tatse buds will be burnt out to after all the different stuff I have put in there since I've been in here. LMAO BVut ain't it fun. Tin..

I am not the biggest fan, just not my favorite collage of flavors, but it is bizarre to say that they are terrible. They are well made, flavorful cigars. Pleasant to smoke and nicely constructed and all that. So that seems like a strange thing to say.

Buy them anyway, and smoke one while you're making your next purchase. Make sure to accidentally blow plumes in his direction while you pay.

Absurd ....

I have heard many 'seasoned' cigar smokers compare the Oliva 'O' Maddies to a cross between the Fuente WOA Maduro and the PAM ... and I have to agree with them!
