Couple nights ago I was rummaging thru the 'gloodor and came across a Flor de Oliva that looked like it was about 8 inches long with a dark wrapper. I remember trading some of these off and giving away some and stuffing them in a box pass as abonus stick, because they didn't seem to ring my bell much. I took the cello off and noticed the wrapper felt a little like sandpaper. There were telltale crystals all over it. Guess it had been down there over a year and I don't remember how old it was when I got it. I know a lot of people liked these and by now I couldn't remember why I didn't. So that was my evening smoke with a bit of port. Well, the first half of that very long cigar seemed as wonderful as anything I ever did smoke, aromatic, complex, natural kind of sweetness, lots of smoke. Just goes to show ya. Wish I had all the others back.

Rick, that was a funny bit, and I did laugh, but most people did not and do not consider the Flor de Oliva maddie to be a dogrocket. Almost every review I ever read were rave reviews. It just didn't do it for me until it got old. But yes, I would like everyone to send me back a year old one. Thanks for suggesting it.;o)

funny ... I had 3 Don Diego madies that'd been in the humi for a long, long time ... sent one as a "throw-in" in a deal and got such a favorable response that I smoked one of the remaining two, found it to be absolutely WONderful and have now kept the third for some special occasion ... of course, the problem is, I've got an entire humidor full of special occasion smokes and let all sorts of occasions pass without smoking one of them ... makes me wonder sometimes what the hell I AM saving them for ...

Guess maybe the answers is to be found in an e-mail exchange a while back ... I told DocMaddVibe that I wanted a traditional Irish wake when I died ... he offered to handle the passing out of all my booze and smokes to the guys from the board that showed up ... if I don't get busy on some of these smokes, maybe Doc'll have his chance ... LO
