Dear Abby: I've read many an article which states that cigar "seconds" are simply premiums that didn't make the grade. Usually a wrapper blemish or a simple way to teach new torcedors or something. I refuse to believe that this Roly line, however, is even made in the same country as the Puros Indios. That's not to say that it has some merit. It's a decent yard smoke for the buck. It's just that the flavor, roll, look, feel, smell, etc are TOTALLY different from my favorite smoke. I know this has been discussed before, and I am not asking for opinions of the cigar itself. Just an explanation as to how it is considered a PI second????? signed: Confused on the Cape.

Could it be that this is a second PI, Cuba Aliados, Roly, Pirates Gold, or one of their private labels(Regalos)?

Seconds can be any damn thing. Made not only from wrapper leaves w/ blemishes but also filler or binder tobacco that did not make the grade.

Additionally, seconds are often shipped with no age on them and so will require more humi' time. This being the case, I do not think the Rolys are worth their price. I have had ones that were very good but they had about a year on them.

Best advice would be to avoid seconds, a good cheap everyday smoke would be a JR. They are good for doing "honey dos" in the yard or garage! I just watch the Quickies board for good quality "cheapies"!

i like a buck cigar for yard work or fixing this and that work. it should be at least a 6 x 50. it's going to go out when you leave it on the block wall fence. it's going to go out when you leave it on the work bench. before you put it down, blow the smoke out of it. when you relight it for the fifth time, i't won't taste any worse than when you first lit it. it's a buck. ****idabodit.

Call me fickle, but I don't much care for seconds of ANY popular brands. They're just imposters. Would I buy a $35.00 (if that was my allowance) bundle and just 'sort of' like it or would I save that $35.00 for a few weeks (making it $70.00 to $105.00) and buy an above average smoke? You bet you life I would. I guess learning from all of you has groomed my taste buds to the finer cigars in life and I truly apreciate it. I can see how my taste in cigars has changed considerably in the past 5 years alone......Brent

I'm with Brent. Save your money and buy the premiums. You know what you're getting. I've bought seconds in the past and they are still sitting in the bottom of my humidor.

I have not smoked the PI Roly, but will agree with the unkle that seconds tend to be hit and miss. I enjoy the Private Stock cigars, which are made by Davidoff; but they saually need 6 months or so to stew before smoking.

Seconds?? "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right"
Think that applies to smoking cigars, whether on the golf course, in the yard, or on the crapper.

Rick, a good crapper cigar would be the Hamilton House's that I bought for $19.95 on the Closeouts Board at CB! That is about all they are good for and if you fumigate the room, ****abotit!

-depending on how long you're gonna be in there, anything from a short robusto to a double corona. Just depends on how much pipe you have to lay.
