I've always wondered who paints the planes. Is it the pilot, the tech crew, someone else? And can they paint whatever or does it have to clear through a higher up first?

Laughing at myself. I thought this would be about Iraqi women with tatoos on their noses under their burqas.

Q: What do you call a Japanese lady with one leg shorter than the other?
A: Irene.

Plabonte,
to answer your question.. the nose art is usually painted on the aircraft by one of the units talanted artists along with the metals shop... with prior approval from the commander...

Sketcha, cool pics... I seen some of those nose arts IRL... we did a stent with SJ in 2002 supporting Operation Enduring Freedom... met a few new load toads and Cigar Smokers while checking out what kinda Ordanace them Eagles can Haul... Impressive!!!!

also got some GCF of the 4800 lbs Cave Buster going off in Afganistan released from the Wing of a SJ Bird... Mr. Mean has a copy of that footage ;0)~~~

Keep em coming!!!

The all time great Artwork on an airplane would have to be from World War II on the famous B-24 Liberator, "Lady and the Dragon" (I believe that was her name) which had the dragon tail going the length of the bomber.
There are several great books on "nose art" and famous artist such as Vargas (creator of Vargas Girls pinups) even contributed, along with Disney Studios and Art Jones!
