I am thinking about buying a small wine cabinet and using it as a humidor. The temp control is the main attraction. Anyone here use this method? Curious what your experiences have been.

Do those coolers have the same tendency as refridgerators - to dehydrate the interior. Just a thought.

How high does the temperature go on the wine cooler? If you do not know, ask him if you can put a thermometer in overnight to test it.

If it goes in the mid-high 60s then you are alright. It it does not, then you could have a problem with the cigars drying out.

Good luck and let us know how things go.

Dehydration would not be an issue since John would have a humidification system in there and he would not be "refrigerating" his cigars. Just cooling to 70 or so. John, if you don't mind a personal question... How big is it? Are we talking about one of those little knee high mini’s?, i.e., 20 bottles? Or something hip high? or head high? I think it's a great idea with the following caveats;

1. you'll need to burp it like a coolidoor every few days since it's not wood and doesn't breath.

2. You need to check on the variability of the thermostat and potentially install a different unit. Wine coolers are typically geared a little cooler. I think wine likes it at about 58 degrees.

Other than that, I'd say, line her, pack her, and put her to sleep!

Sounds good and maybe buy a couple boxes of those LOne Wolf rockets that are special to test as guinea pigs!~

I have seen posts at CW about wine coolers. I thimk if the temp variability is good, you can install an active Cigar Oasis unit and be high tech as all get out!!

You mean the old shoe box I use isn't high tech. My sweaty sneakers keep it moist. And yes I have the Doctor Scholls in them. Only the finest for my Bad Frogs.

Man,
This seems to answer my problem with keeping the smokes around 70 degrees. I was having to keep my house 70 degrees all summer. Ouch, almost as expensive as my taste in cigars. I gets hot here in arkansas.

With my wife, I won't have to worry about temp being too high until winter. The summer months she demands 69-70 degrees. In the winter it has to be 72 or more.
Wait maybe I should change that wording for summer to 70 or blow.

It is a 34 bottle cooler.

I appreciate all the feedback here. Yes, I plan on using a cigar oasis with the unit, which should help a bit to keep air flow happening.

I have the worry about temperature too. Though I don't live in Arkansas (I lived in Memphis for 8 years...damn hot!), I won't have central air conditioning and worry about my smokes. My sweetie is not so willing to keep the air conditioner on; many fights about it in the past, many to come. So this seemed a solution to a few of the problems.

Any other thoughts...post away! I appreciate them.
