Ariley's Bucanero Robusto problem...

Ariley,

When you receive your cigars from C-bid do you smoke them right away or do you let them get a little rest in your humidor?

Every cigar that I've smoked right after receiving them have had burn/draw problems. After reading several posts here in c-bid, I decided to try letting them sit in my humidor at least one week prior ot smoking. That has worked for me. I no longer have burn/draw problems.

Why don't you try letting them sit for a week and see if that corrects your problem. If not, try two weeks, then three weeks etc..

Bucaneros are too good of a cigar to write off after one bad experience. I know you smoked most or all of your 5-pack, but you did so in too short of time. Get yourself another 5-pack and try letting them sit so the humidity levels out to the appropriate level. BTW, I keep my maduros at 65%-69% RH.

Good luck,
Matt

... and this time, go for either the 'Peg Leg' or the 'Full Sail'!

If you can get a hold of any el Capitan Reserva MADURO ... definately go for those!

Good one Slim!

The other point that I'll try to make is...Who on this board raved about the Classico line? Everyone I know that smokes Bucanero as a regular is a fan of the Full Sail, Peg Leg and El Capatain lines.

The sniping I see against the manufacturer is likened by me comparing the performance of a Geo to a Corvette and whinning, it's a GM!

Just my .03!

Here's a review of the Peg Leg I posted elsewhere. I am a fine of the classico maduro.

This is probably my favorite of the Bucanero line.
Costa Rican maduro wrapper. Conneticut binder. Blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan filler and I thought someone made mention of Italian tobacco.

Wow! What complexity, great
construction, super even burn with great smoke volume. I don't think
there was a positive flavor I didn't taste! First observation is the beauty in the dark oily wrapper. Clip was solid and the pre-draw taste wonderful. Lit with ease and started creamy and smooth. Smoke volume was incredible and hung in the air with such sweetness that you wanted to just sit in it!
Flavor nuances changed throughout the experience from cream to cocoa then to roasted coffee to espresso. Burn was on the money throughout. Finished (sigh) with just a touch of spice and leather. It was fantastic.
One of the few cigars I wanted to go back inside and get another and start the experience over again.

Marlee said I stunk. I told her that's what heaven smells like.

Just a comment to some of the discussion regarding my unfortunate and expensive sideswipe into Bucaneros. I at no time have been "sniping". All I did was calmly pass along an experience. As far as comments about letting them sit in the Igloodor for a time----these could have sat in the Igloodor for 50 years and it wouldn't have improved the draw on these. They drew like a paper tube, about 1/2 full of tobacco. You could soak them in water and they would still have had a sub standard light draw. I have been smoking cigars for 25 years, and a light draw is a light draw. I am not a professional commentator on Bucanero's....I just noted that the ones I smoked were sub standard quality. Not bitching...just a report.

ariley --- you're fine, no need to sweat it. The 'Clasico Maduro' are OK (although I have not ever had an underfilled one yet), but they also are not the best of their lines ... and I won't go out of my way to get any of them. Could be you just got a 'sub-par' batch ... who knows?

Magnafide --- look at it again. I think you'll figure it out ... LOL!

I apologize if I offended you Ariley! I was just offering a suggestion that might make the cigar draw better for you.

My apologies!

I'm a staunch supporter of the Full Sail (my favorite Buc) and the ElCapitan Maduro. However, I really enjoy the classic maduro in the robusto and churchill size, but only after extensive aging (5+ months). After that time, the classic line is one of the most tasty cigars I've ever smoked and they get covered in plume. I have a box of the robusto and churchill that will be ready for nubbing around the holidays. Can't wait! Until then, an occasional Full Sail is on the monthly menu.

I also concur with Lowman on the other post. None of the Bucs I've smoked have appeared to be "light"; all seemed quite hefty; a lot of tobacco in there. That is not to say that the classic line has some problems, but I've not experienced them that's all.

arily,

In my experiences with this forum on the subject of Bucaneros, there is a faction that becomes overly concerned when someone has a less than favorable comment on the brand. They can't fathom how in the world the posting party can't understand how wonderful Bucaneros are. They suggest buying more, and if you didnt like that one you need to try this one, buy more to make SUUUUUUUURRRE you dont like them, ok then try this one. Or let them age 5 years, check the humidity, your humi's to warm etc etc. It is not until you meet some kind of quota that they will accept your opinion that you just dont care for them. They will end each post with something like "oh well to each his own blah blah blah, but will, like clockwork, do the same thing to each individual that does not share their opinion.
If they truely believed "to each his own", they wouldnt brow beat(dragon)smokers who do not care for them.

I usually steer clear of Buc posts as of late because of this phenomenon. But I was compelled to read when I saw the post to the post.

Peace Out
BD

I hope I'm not doing this. I post my own opinions on what I've smoked and try to find reasons as to why someone didn't like what they smoked so that I can look out for them should I smoke what they did. I don't care one way or the other what someone likes/dislikes unless of course I'm trading with that individual.

BeatDragon --- ariley's problem was with the construction (i.e. underfill) ... not taste. I didn't read anything here (or the other post) about him not liking the cigar in general, in fact, he even said, "Great flavor" ... but just voiced his concern on how loose it was.

You statement here would have had some merit ... if it were on topic ... ;^)

It seems to me, that for every faction that becomes overly concerned when someone has a less than favorable comment on the brand ... there is a fraction out here that will always (as DrMaddVibe put it) 'snipe' at the brand at every available opportunity ...

Heck .... the more times these conversations pop up, the more publicity Bucanero receives. The more controversy there is on them ... the more likely someone may decide to try them themselves, and formulate their own opinion.

... it's all good!

BeatDragon --- no offense taken ... I just took your post as your true observation, and thought you may have misunderstood what ariley was saying. You know, on these forums, it's can be very hard to tell sometimes ... hey, can I have a Brasilia too?!?

Robby --- he's a drummer (upper body strength and stamina, you know) ... besides, I wouldn't lower myself to that grade school level anyway ... ;^) ... at least not over something this trite.

I agree with Beatdragons post, even if it was intended to provoke a specific response.
Other cigars get rated poorly on these boards and there is little or no wrath from those that enjoy the brand. Mention to someone that a Buc was subpar and you may as well have insulted their mother.

Curious. Disturbing. Even Frightening behaviour from folks whose opinions I value.

I am partial to Puros Indios, yet you won't see me take it personally when someone doesn't like them. But, of course, nobody dislikes PI's.
If you know what's good for you....

JonR, Being of above average intelligence and with strongly held opinions and being outspoken, I have learned that I am sure to provoke hostility from those who only feel better when making others feel worse.

I've come to expect it from certain folks whose only apparent joy seems to come from hurling personal insults at others. While occasionally we all slip and show a darker side, it appears to be a pattern of behavior for some others.

I look past it to the piteous individual beneath and feel sorry for those with such deeply rooted self-loathing... Get well soon.

... thanks for the laugh Robby ... if I didn't find your reply so humorous, I might have thought it pathetic.

I needed a good chuckle this morning!

Bucs, Bucs, Bucs - Love 'Em - Each and Every one of em! Favorite in the line is the classico robusto. Have never experienced difficutlties with draw. Have had some construction issues.

Recommendation: Send all of your Bucs to me and for safe and prompt disposal. =)

Regards,
