Do not try and smoke a cigar outside when the humidity is near 100%. I couldn't resist trying though, had just had a great home made meal with veggies fresh out of the garden. It had rained while we ate, and afterwards, it was time for dessert.

The cigar just didn't burn or taste well at all. /:

Chalk that one up to learning I guess.

you should always leave the cello on when you are planning on smoking in the rain.

Credo implants, coming soon to stores near you.
Try lighting up before going outside next time.
Heck, just refuse to go outside, who wears the pants around there anyway? Have the family go outside and enjoy nature.

I did the same thing last night and ended up wasting a good CAO this way.

I sit on my front porch in high humidity, I live in Arkansas, all the time. I have never had a cigar not smoke well because of the humidity. I have sat out there smoking, in the middle of huge thunderstorms, and have never had a problem.
Weird HUH.

I live in NC and have sat on the porch during a rainstorm many times and never had one burn any way but good. Who knows? Try again I guess

This is a VERY interesting discussion. I too have experienced what I considered to be "issues" with otherwise outstanding cigars when they were consumed on the porch in at or near 100% humidity conditions... But on the other hand, other times, no problem. Perhaps it depends on the cigar? I.e., the ring, the wrapper, and the roll?

I would submit that the humidity outside should make no difference (unless you are standing in a downpour) since the cigar can't absorb the moisture in the air so quickly that you couldn't keep the cigar lit. I would suggest that the cigar had problems prior to lighting up. My 2 cents worth.

I think we may need Slim to weigh in on this. He's somewhat of an expert on arcane cigar knowledge.

If the cigar was properly cared for, the outside humidity will have NO effect whatsoever.

Did you check the barometer? Perhaps a high pressure front affected your ability to draw.
Or if the temperature was extremely high, let's say near the flash point of tobacco, then you may have had issues with the cigar spontaneously combusting.
Was it night time? Maybe it was so dark that you didnt' realize that you didn't actually light the cigar. That tends to affect the burn somewhat.

Don't overthink it. If it smoked poorly at 99% humidity, it likely would have smoked poorly at 70% or even 50%.

But what do I know.

I smoked a Costa Rican cigar on the beach in Puerto Limon. RH tends to stay around 90% there. No lighting problems. Hard to find a place to get humidity down and temperature below 80.

They seem to have smoked fine.

This is a new one on me! When I am in Jackson, MS visiting my father the damn humidity is always around 80 to 100 and I have not noticed any problems smoking cigars there!!!!

Charlie

PS Was it a bad cigar?

I love smoking during rain showers and last week was the only time I've ever had problems with a cigar.

I smoked a CAO L'Anniversaire Maduro that was sitting right next to my other CAO L'Anniversaire Maduros of which I've never have any problems with.

The one that I did have a problem with was extremly difficult to draw for most of the cigar, and it did have an unusual taste. It was weird!

I live in Houston where the air is thicker than the water and I've never had that problem. Heck I've been dunked by waves while fishing the surf and managed to keep a cigar lit, although it does add a salty flavor to the cigar. LOL

I used to think The Cigar Umbrella was just a gimmick, but I tried it under those conditions and find it works just as well as the Poker, Cigar Saver, etc.
