A peculiar cigar day today...
With my morning coffee, I smoked a Felipe II Reserva N, a cigar I hadn't smoked in months. It was very enjoyable. I decided to smoke a Felipe Gregorio Black Suntoso, later, and it was also very good.
At my gym, in the stack of magazines was the April issue of Cigar Aficianado. On page 151, the Felipe II Reserva C is rated an 85, described: 5.5 by 42, filler: Honduras, Nicaragua; binder: Nicaragua, wrapper: Nicaragua..."Dark, oily, and rough with an easy draw and a pleasant aroma. The cigar's sweetness verges on cloying." Medium bodied. MSRP $6.40. Then, scanning Cigarbid, today, I found
http://www.cigarbid.com/...on/lot.cfm?lotID=118240 Felipe II Reserva C described as: "Handmade in Honduras using all-Honduran long-filler and binder and a Sumatran wrapper. This delicious cigar is medium-bodied with a peppery flavor. SMOKE magazine rated it a '3.6'. Cigar Aficionado rated it an 88, commenting:
"A well-made cigar. This medium-bodied smoke has a good balance and components of toast and roasted wood tastes. A little dry on the finish."
It's happened before. Same named cigar. Same band, similar look, very different cigar. The Honduran with the Sumatra wrapper was discontinued quite some time ago.
