OK, I've had both Bloom and Mold on various smokes over time. The mold always had a light hint of color (greenish blue). I have some cigars now that display a white substance, but it may not be bloom. It has "depth" but has no hint of any color other than white. Is this Bloom? The bloom I've seen has been more "dusty" than this. How can I tell? There is no odor (other than the sweet smell of tobacco). Since I've never smoked a cigar with obvious mold, I don't know what flavor to look for. Any assistance would be appreciated.

If it brushes off easy with your finger then ist bloom...Sometimes you will get green spots ona cigar and it's not mold.. I had some on a Monte #2 ISOM I bought in Toronto some years ago and when I called the store that sold it he explained it was a water stain on the wrapperfrom when it was on the plant and the green was the oils mixing with the spot... It had no depth like mold which I have seen to have a complex structure to it... Check the foot for structure and moldy svent to be sure...JMHO

If it brushes off with little or no effort, then ya got the basic bloom! No biggie there, but if it doesn't and it has slight odor, then mold or worse! Sounds like bloom! Charlie

If you smoked a cigar with mold it would taste moldy. Bloomon the other hand is an asset. I was gifted a cigar by Cosmo VI a CAO Belicoso as I ercall that had bloom on arrival and stayed in bloom until I consumed it. Bloom= + Mold= -. Bloom is sconsequence of effective storage. Mold is a consequence of too much moisture.

Thanks guys. I was concerned only because it did not look like the bloom that I have encountered in the past. It did have depth, but it also brushed off easily and the cigar did not smoke moldy at all. Looks like we have a winner! BTW, it was on a recently received box of Aristoff Belicoso 450 Maduros won here at CB.

Those Aristoff's are really great cigars, one of my favorites! How are the Belicosos? I have never had that particular one! Charlie

Well Charlie, you've got one coming your way now. The Belicoso 450 is a very short torpedo and smoked too quickly. I think the 550 will be a better 'gar. The maduro wrapper way yummy, but although it did have proper aging as evidenced by the aformentioned bloom, it seemed somewhat dry, perhaps due to shipping. I think the Black Label robusto you sent me was a better smoke overall. Besides, it contains some "Bahia Mata Fina" filler, and that is fun to say out loud ... !
