I am looking for some recommendations on some of Bird's CDs to add to my jazz collection. Did an internet search and came up with way too many to be of any help. Lately I've been getting into classical jazz, have some Coltrane,Miles,Mingus,Art Tatum,MJQ,Sonny Rollins. Any "must have" Parker albums I should get? Thanks in advance for any help.

There was a box collection of 8 to 10 CD's that looked great, but wife snarled when I picked it up! Last saw it about 2 years ago.

Thanks Charlie, but I also have balked at the boxed sets, too steep a price tag although it probably is less expensive than buying individual CDs. I'm going to have add 1 or 2 at a time.

Charlie Parker is da sh#ts!

I recently got to view rare film footage of many of the Jazz legends, including Parker. And this past weekend, I had sex while Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" was playing on the CD player. On Sunday, three of my buddies who make up the Richard Glaser Trio (a local Los Angeles jazz band) came over to play cards and smoke some sticks. So yes, I am a jazz fan.

For Charlie Parker, I like "Confirmation: Best of the Verve Years", and "Yardbird Suites". But there are so many collections now, that anything you pick up is good.

If you don't have Coltrane's "Ballads", you should definately get it. Its one of my favorite.

If you jazz and the sax, do yourself a favor and track down some old Charlie Hayden albums. "Nocturne" is an album that will make you feel as though you are in a lounge in 1958 Chicago.

Charlie Parker with Strings. I used to have an old 78 of "Relaxin' at Camarillo" and an out-take when he was breaking down on stage. Bird lives.
