What's the deal with ACID?

The first time I saw ACID cigars was in a mail-order cigar catalogue, and since they were advertised along with such other cheapos as Bad Frog and Iguana cigars, I assumed they were a cheap brand or a left-over from the million and one cigar brands that sprang up during the boom a few years back.

Now, since one of my friends introduced me to this site, everytime I see ACID cigars on here, they usually go up almost to or beyond the $100 range for a box!

I read somewhere on here they were made by Drew Estate (I've had their Industrial Press before, and I thought it was pretty nice).

So why is it everyone is so crazy about these things?

ikonoklast7 --- not many people are, but they (and Lars Teten) do have their 'cult' followers ...

They are not what I would classify as a 'cigar boom' line of cigars, although they may have been around during that era. They are still coming out with new lines ... and both have alway commanded high prices.

BTW ... posting competitor's names, websites, etc. is frowned upon by our gracious hosts here at CBID ... and usually results in the competitors name getting edited out ...

Sorry. My bad.

I have had a Lars Tetens before, and I believe both it and ACID incorporate herbs, spices, etc. into the fermenting and aging processes of their stogies, right?

But what I was really wondering is are they as good as their price commands? What do they taste like? Etc.

How would you describe the color red to someone who had been blind since birth? If you're curious, there are people on the trades board who would introduce you to them/satisfy your curiosity. You may like them, but the best way to know is to try a few ;-)

What Robby said ...

... but to me, they taste like perfumed cigars.

Having smoked everything Drew Estates makes, it is still hard to answer your question. There are so many variations of ACID cigars that they can't all be covered in one statement. Some I love, some I hate. You just have to sample them to find the ones you like. I don't smoke much of them anymore, but there were the BEST when I started smoking cigars.

Open a trade for ACID samplers and you will get a good variety from the good folks here.

the spin off iconoclast, has made you a special guy in my mind.

i am one of the nutcases that like acids. i am also the onlky one i know who has a cooler chest filled with the packing leaves from acid cigars and has a box or two of inexpensive cigars being acidified.

i'm currently hooked on bohemians which you will be able to see when my picture post appears monday.

send me your snailer and i will send you some different acid types to try. you can make your own decision and not be put upon my these "purists"

if you don't like them, no harm done, just don't tell anyone about my sending them to you, along with another cigar you mentioned. consider it a birthday gift for your last birthday, which i did not get an invitation to.

Thanks RICKAMAVEN

Check your email, I'd DEFINITELY interested!

Thanks to everyone else who replied, though when I think about, I agree it is just near impossible to fully describe a cigar.

I haven't had an Acid in several months, but I will again. That ugly little bugle-shaped thing they call "Nasty" tastes like it was cured in un-sweetened Sen-Sen, but the afternoon I spent with one was very pleasant. Makes me think I'd like to have another soon.

The Nasty is one of my three favorite Acids. But I'll agree - it is an ugly little cigar!

Every once in a while I get to have one. Smoked the Kuba-Kuba last week and have had Def Sea. I like a departure from my normal smokes once in a while. I have a EZ-Dor that I picked up at CBid to keep a small stash in. Remember to not intergrate with regular cigars.

ahemmmm...speaking as a Def Sea and Ambrosia tur fan of those leaves. ( and yes I have seperated them from the other smokes. THANKS to the brothers of the leaf here LOL...... I have 2 Humis with all the packing leaves in them keeping my acids at their prime I also have another in the experimenting stage of Lone wolfes tring to marry them and make them dogs tast better. If has been an exceptional marriage after about 6 months in there. Now for the next stage ( and here is where I will get the purists hacking and coughing) I am allowing 1 of my Opus x in the box ( standing back as I hear vain names being shouted my way ) LOLOLOLOL
