This morning, I got up and brewed a pot of my 'fresh roasted' ISOM 'Crystal Mountain' coffee ... and pulled out a 'Salsa' and went oout on my deck.
At 7 o'clock ... it was already 80 degrees, and a beautiful morning. I couldn't wait to 'fire up' my first 'Salsa' ... and was thinking about DrMaddvibe's narrative from last night.
As I was patiently toasting the foot ... I got my first wiff of the aroma ... and his 11 year old son was fairly accurate in his first impression of the scent. I too got the same sensation ... like opening a fresh bag of B-B-Q'ed Dorrito's and sticking my nose right in the bag.
The first puff awakened my senses (or I should say 'kick-started' them) ... and I thought, "oh my, what have I gotten myself into, so early in the morning?" ... but, being accustomed to full-bodied cigars with the expected 'punch', I took a swig from my cup of coffee to 'cool-off' my palate, and continued on ...
Through the first quater of the cigar, my head began to spin a little ... but the taste was incredible. Hearty and robust, with an easy draw and copious amounts of thick, bluish-white smoke ... I noticed the tingling senasion in my nose and mouth begin to diminish. Standing in the morning sunlight, I discerned a brilliant sheen to the cigar ... almost an iridescence to the dark, oily wrapper.
As I continued to enjoy the 'Salsa' along with my coffee ... the combination of flavors were seamless, and created a wonderful combination. It was a match made in heaven ...
Half way through ... the cigar smoothed out, and I no longer noticed the the initial 'kick' that I thought would have me setting it down, and then coming back to it later. It was still full-bodied and powerful, alright ... but it was without any of the harshness I first experienced. The flavor was thick, creamy and very flavorful, and I was thinking I could almost 'chew' the smoke.
About ¾ of the way through ... I decided to set it down, and come in to write down and post my thoughts while they were still fresh in my mind. After I send this ... I will go back to see how the saga ends.
Overall ... I've got to say, my first impression of this new cigar is very favorable. My favorite Bucanero of the present lines, is the 'el Capitan Reserva Maduro' ... but I have a feeling, that is soon going to change. This cigar is complex ... and I'm going to have to experience it several more times, and it's going to have to consistantly prove itself to me, before it will 'bump' my favorite Buc out of it's spot in the winner's circle ... but I honestly think that it is going to be able to do just that.
I may have another one in a few days or so ... but, I'm going to let a few 'rest' for as long as I can, as I know that time, and a little more age, will only make this one better.
OK ... so I may be biased, but it's only because I really enjoy Bucanero cigars, but I've got to give this one a solid 8 ... or maybe even a low 9, And I only say this, because I truly believe ... it is one of the best cigars (out of all their lines) that Bucanero Cigars has produced ...
