Good Day, just wondering why most or all bids start at $1.00, but when it opens the first person at times bet $50.00 (just an example) why not start at $1.00 and then if you want it at such a higer price, bid on it in the last 10 to 15 minutes of its closing.

different folks have different bidding stategies ... maybe that bidder is attempting to frighten off would be competitors ... of course, it might've been a mistake on his part ... dunno how many others will 'fess up to this, but I know that when I was new to CBid and didn't know how to fix it, I made the mistake of meaning to set the auto-bid at a certain figure, but hit the 'bid' drop-down in error ...

The answer to that question will vary with each individual that places the bid ... who's to know, except the person who placed the bid?

My guess ... is they haven't figured out how the 'auto-bid' feature works, and they placed their maximum bid in the wrong box ...

LMAO!!! Welcome to CBid SP... and also Welcome to the World of the Unknown... do a search on Overbidders...

but for the most part each Individual here bids at their own discretion... maybe this Guy/Gal wanted the item so bad that that was the Max their Credit Card/Spouse would allow them to go for it?? and maybe if you want it worse... you could bid 51 bucks and the "Price is Right" for you!!! thus you outbid your apponent and probably paid twice as much as the fair market Value for the Item in Question and thus you are a Hooked Contestent on the other previously posted threads IE: Think its time for another Humidor.. or my Wife is going to Kill me when she see's my Credit card Statement... Or I'm in the Doghouse Now... again welcome to the Forum where each and every one of us has gone through the same Delima you are at now at one point in time around here... Hang on to your Wallet and enjoy your Ride!!!!!!

SP, my dear man I do that because I CAN! I have buckets of money that I wipe my can with! Most of the time I light my cigars with 50 dollar bills. I found that a 50 has the right amount of ink that doesn't leave a bitter aftertaste like those 100 dollar bills do. Those cheap 20's taste horrible and it takes about 3 of them to even out the harshness. When you reach a certain stage where money is no object than you too can spread it around.

Gotcha! Just kidding! It's usually done by people with more money than brains! All anyone has to do is look up prices and compare locally(if that's an option!)to see if they're getting a good deal. And then there's those clowns that caught up in the moment like a great white shark on a feeding frenzy. They don't care...they HAVE to have it! Welcome, and don't be a stranger!

Doc probably has some of my ass pennies too.

SP,

Simple. Check the rules. Earlier bids have priority and will often pay 1 increment less than others for the same thing on multiple lots.

P.S. You're welcome for this hint for paying less at CBid.

P.P.S. I was referring to folks who use the auto-bid feature. People like Doc who pay CBid with stained 50 Dollar Bills are either morons, or have money to burn or wipe their asses with.

SP,

You'd better watch yourself with Doc, he's pretty sensitive. He never dishes it out either. And I'm never sarcastic.

SteveS: I've made that same mistake many times, confusing the bid and auto-bid buttons.

It really pisses you off when you win an H. Upmann sampler for $30 when everyone else paid $11!

ikonoklast7 & Steve I must confess, I've also put my high bid in the regular bid spot instead of autobid.

Makes me feel like a total jackass...:>0

As I've said before, I tend to hit the "bid this exact amount" button rather than the sandbagging button after about the 3rd....maybe 4th brandy....still can't figure out if there's a correlation though......

DrMaddVibe,

You're lighting the wrong end of those $20's. Lite the end without the plastic strip in them, big improvement.

Barry, I'd heard that before, but I've got a large amount of the older ones and I'm letting the striped/watermark bills sleep. They should be perfect, say in about 10 years!
