I won a box last night. Never heard of them, but figured with the Torano name on them I couldn't go wrong for $25. Has anybody tried these? I have come up empty on searching for info on this cigar. I figure it's a close out but someone out there must know something on these. Any inputs would be appreciated.

Thanks

I agree, I've never had a bad Torano cigar (I've had some I have like much better than others). Can't really provide any info on these. Don't believe I've ever seen/noticed them til recently. Good price for a box if they're any good.

I did find this post where jd1 mentioned them.

http://www.cigarbid.com/...lay=0000000003913#29700

Other than that I came up empty. I sent an email to the Torano people, maybe they can at least give me the make up and history of the cigar and what it retailed for.

Yep; put about that much age on them and you might like them. And they did ploom out nicely as jd1 said.

This brand hasn't been marketed for a few years. They were rolled with a three year old Indonesian wrapper. I still see a few five packs with Father's Day wrapping on them. I think they're pretty mild as they were rolled during the boom.

I think you got a pretty good deal at that price. Thses are priced around $8.00 a stick at my local tobacco store. That is if we are talking about the same thing.

Xquisitos are often confused with Cusano Xclusivos (terrific smoke) and an Xclusivo, which, I believe, was rolled by the Eiroas at Caribe.

The Cusano is the only one being rolled now, and they often sell in local shops for $8.00-$10.00 for torps and churchills. Cbid has a Cusano sampler that has two Xclusivos within it. http://www.cigarbid.com/...on/lot.cfm?lotID=121511

I've bought a couple of the samplers here for $17-19 and considered it one of my best buys at Cbid.

Gents,

I have 3 Xquisitos left from the bottom of my humi!

After reading this post, I went searching and there they were, covered with plum and have at least 3+ years in my humis.

If anyone from this thread is interersted in them.... Shoot me an email. No trade needed! For research use only! ;-)

Cheers,

PT ;-)

PS. Sorry Slim, I realize this is the wrong board, just seemed appropriate to post here. :-)PT

Got a reply to my email to the Torano company on these cigars. This is what they had to say.

This was an old private label manufactured many years ago for
a company that it now out of business. We cannot comment any more
on the cigars because we simply don't know the conditions they have been
stored in over all these years. I hope you enjoy them and please let me know
how they were.

Regards,

Frank Santos

Not much to go on, I guess I'll know more in a few days when my cbid shipment arrives.

Very generous offer, thank you!

Post your email and I’ll get your snailer from you.

I’ll be getting my shipment tomorrow and assuming they’re in good shape I’ll send you out a few to try. I only bid on the box out of curiosity and I doubt I’ll ever smoke them all anyway. Let me know.

Carlos Torano Xquisito
The toro-sized (6"x 50) Xquisito is made by Carlos Torano. With Indonesian wrappers that have been aged for almost 4 years, this is a mellow and well-aged smoke. The rich, moist wrappers, combined with the robust Cuban seed filler leaves harvested from the lush Jalapa Valley region of Nicaragua, gives Xquisito a complex flavor unmatched by many of the blends available today. Packaged in an attractive cedar box set of 4, each box also contains a small humidifier for freshness.

And what a pleasure it was! I set out predisposed to not like this cigar. Don't know why, but the band was kind of uneven, the wrapper was veiny, the cigar was rock hard and I thought the draw was going to be really tight. It was obviously well aged and well cared for, but it didn't get the salivary glands working the way so many do just by looking at it.

I just finished a meal of venison tacos (mmm) and had finished my first Shiner bock. I was thinking of grabbing something I knew would be full bodied, but since I spent the day smoking other cigars sent to me by the generous PT, I figured I'd make good on my promise to give my opinion on the Xquisito.

I carried it and another beer out to the patio and grabbed a seat. It was brutally hot today and I spent the entire day doing yard work so I was pretty beat. Fortunately, it turned out to be a pleasant evening and admiring the days labor made me feel pretty good.

Since it was a small ring gauge and I feared it was going to be tight, I gave it a full cut just above the head. I toasted the foot briefly and brought her up for a draw. From this point on, I knew my first impression was way off. The draw was perfect, the burn was great and the taste was...dare I say "exquisite?!" Well, that may be a bit much, but it kept getting better as it burned. It held a 2+ inch ash until I walked over and tapped on the window to show my wife who was reading inside (of course this jostling caused it to fall). After the ash fell, I got up and started puttering around the yard a little (there's always more to do). The cigar kept burning slow, straight, and tasty down to the nub. Since I've never had this cigar before, I can't say for certain, but my feeling is that the extensive aging improved this cigar considerably. I'm really glad that PT sent two so that I can repeat the experience with the other later.

Was it the best, or even one of the top cigars I have ever had? No, probably not. Was it "darn good?" You betcha
