Ok, I searched and didn't find anything on this, so here goes.

I have read all kinds of things about folks using only wooden matches or cedar sticks for lighting their cigars.
I am not certain I understand the reasoning.
Can someone shed some light?

Sure...gotta match?

I use both but prefer matches. Seems to decrease the uneven burn issues. Unless of course the cigar was doomed from the beginning.

I'm more of a lighter fan. Too hard to keep the matches from blowing out. A lighter is easier.

Ditto Robby.

I got 2 on here for $5. Good ones. I use Vector butane for $4 per large can from my local.

Also...

Did you search "All Messages", or less?

first,0patience, by lighter, the reference is to butane, never lighter fluid.

second, sketcha, slimboli's suggestion about using lava fuel brand of butane was great. my lighters are all working better and the fuel last longer. take the man's advice and get some. 3 cans for about $25. including shipping for some super stuff.

Actually ... a ligher is better than matches, IMHO ...

... clean burning butane imparts no unpleasant taste to the cigar, expecially if you 'toast the foot' first when lighting it ...

With matches ... you can suck 'sulfur' into the cigar, and most of the folks I've seen that use them, use the matches to light 'cedar strips' ... then use the cedar strip to light the cigar.

I prefer to toast the foot and attempt to get it all red before I draw any air through it. I believe it makees a huge difference in the the first third of the cigar
