I received and email today ... that made me feel that what I, and many others here have been trying to accomplish on these forums ... is, and has been, all worthwhile ...

... and I thought I'd share it with you all.

Before posting this, I asked the permission of the sender ... and he reluctantly said it would be OK, as long as I 'edited' the specifics a little (so as not to offend anynone in particular) ... and that I respect his right to remain anonymous.

This is what he wrote, keeping in mind that I edited it ever so slightly to remove names, but keeping the integrity of what he said intact ...

Hello Slim,

Sorry for the intrusion, but I just wanted to acknowledge your wisdom and straightforward approach to AF cigars, especially the high end AF's. High-end AF cigars are probably some of the best cigars around, and your insight on these cigars have made them much more pleasurable to me.

Secondly, you as well as some of the other senior members in the CB Forum, have helped to maintain and keep this forum organized, and to a high quality of 'class' ... with your knowledge and insight on cigars, etc.

As a member now for a couple of years, your approach, as well as some of the other senior members, has been very consistent. I thought about leaving this forum a couple of months ago, especially with an influx of "low-grade" threads and posts and vulgarity in the forum.

Please don't me wrong, there has been a good number of new folks who have come aboard that have added much to these forums ... and are much welcomed. I always welcome and am very grateful for any "free" knowledge and insights on cigars and the enjoyment thereof, as one of the finest pleasures in life is cigars.

Therefore, if I may, I would like to send you a small package as a token of my appreciation, for your presence in the forums. It's not much, but I just want to show my thanks.

See you in the forum!

yeah Slim, I can get on that bandwagon! I'm 37, been puffin' for 1 year and appreciate kind advice, a little humor and none of the offensive tripe that can muck-up a board like some I've visited.

Thanks to all you cats! I know the average age here is much higher than on, say a movie-chat forum I was a part of...Thanks guys!

Go Stars! --- I think you will be surprised ... that many members of the CB forums are much yonger than you expected ... many just starting out on the cigar adventure.

... just a few of us are 'old farts' ... LOL!

BTW, Stars, Plano herf on 8-31

BTW_2, Slim da man in da know.

Q. What is the average burn time of a robusto?

Q. How many puffs does it take to burn a robusto down to ~1" in length.

Q. Can you drive a pick up truck down the freeway with a bed full of water?

LOL, take care all...

A: 35 minutes
A: 86.5 puggs
A: If you do drive your pickup full of water while smoking a cigar with the back cab window open, water may splash in and wet your cigar which will materially alter the answers given above.

yes that should be puffs and not puggs. We really don't care about those cute little dogs when it comes to smoking cigars.

Yeah my pug will go crazy everytime I open my humidor. I always let him smell it but that just doesn't seem to be enough.

but on the original note.

I have to agree. I have always wanted to smoke cigars. Took me 29 years to try them. BUT it would be worth it to start just to get to know some of the people on the board like Slim. These are great guys and he has helped me more times than I can count.

Thanks Slim

My Akita has it figured out ... she knows that when I take a cigar from the humidor, that we're going outside ... she runs to the door before I can even get the humidor closed ...

But, I digress, which I suppose, is technically a thread-jack ... best we get back to Slim's letter of compliment and package of reward ...

Just kidding ... and feel free to 'thread-jack', if you wish ...

Personally, I've always thought Pugs got their uniquely shaped face because they are prone to always be chasing parked cars.............!

I don't get to the boards as much as some of you,
but I do know that Slim's one of the good ones!

BTW, I got my cats a play cigar with cat-nip in it.
They go bonkers for it. Wow, I don't think I've ever
typed bonkers before.

I'll add my vote that slim is one of the good guys and this board is a great placed to come for some edumacation and some entertainment. I haven't seen NEARLY the amount of crap here that I have in one of the other boards I USED to frequent. This has always been a good board for me. Thanks to all who have patiently tried to help all of us.
