You can check out a bunch of tattoo photos at http://www.bme.freeq.com/tattoo/bme-tatt.html

Just be careful not to wander too far from the tattoo section of the site if you have a weak stomach.

I would suggest going to the place that is going to do your tattoo. Most have Flash Art that can give you idea. The artists usually have albums of work that they did. And they all usually have a bunch of tattoo magazines that you can look through. Plus then you can spend a little time there to find out if it is a quality (and clean) place to get a tattoo.

My best suggestion is to get something in mind before you go and then make them draw it and look it over first. Don't be afraid to ask them to redo it or completely change the idea. When I got mine I went in with something in mind and had them draw about 4 different versions of it. About 2 hours later we were both happy with what it was and I have never regreted it.

If you go just thinking you'll pick something out of their collection when you get there 9 times out of 10 you're going to have a regret that you didn't pick something else out. Plus if it's something you thought of it will be an original that no one else will have.

Mine happens to be a yin yang with an eagle claw holding it.

... one that will cover that 'macabre' one you got now signifying 'till death do us part ...

... sorry, wbslngr ... but I found that it gave me an uneasy feeling and sent a 'mixed message'.

But hey ... to each their own, and if you and your wife like it ... that's all that counts, and that is all that really matters anyway!

MITB is right. When I suggested going in and looking through magazines and flash art for ideas I should have said do this well before you are actually going to get the art work done. Not the day of or day before.

Get a tattoo because it means something or is significant to you in some way. Don't get one just to get one.

If you are anywhere near Southern California, there are a few of famous places in Hollywood with well-known tattoo artists. I ran into a few celebrities in some of the tattoo shops there. Dave Groul from the Foo Fighters/Nirvana was getting his back done the last time I been to one of those shops in hollywood.

No offence but if you have to ask for ideas for a tatoo I think you really need to ask yourself why you are getting one. To me a tattoo is very personal and should only be gotten if there is something you wish to express on a personal level. Any other reason is just for fashion. Have you ever noticed how you don't care much for the fashions of ten or 20 years ago? You can always throw clothes out, a tattoo is permanent unless you want to go through some painful and imperfect laser treatment.
Don't get me wrong, I have tatoos on both arms and will always love them because they have meaning for me. Tattos are great, just think it out and make sure you are getting something you will always appreciate. Nobody but you can decide that for you.

You are true but with ideas or sites with ideas there could something that would stir a memory or a emotion within me that would make me say. That is the one. I wasn't wanting someone to decide for me. I have an idea on what I want, I just was interested in seeing others so I could "create" my own in the image that defines how I feel.

You aren't alone Slim. It started out as the grim reaper and then from there I got married and it seemed to me that it fit everything together. I only want to be married once and for life, and that was the tattoo I have always wanted.

Thanks guys for the good and the bad.
