Green String?

I bought a Padron 5000 Maduro a couple of months ago, and I pulled it out for tonight's smoke. As I was examining it, I noticed a thin green string like material protruding from the foot. I examine the cigars I buy in-store, but I guess I overlooked this. As I tried to pull it off the cigar, it kept coming out from inside the cigar. By the time I finished pulling, it was 3 inches in length. I thought this was kind of sketchy, but I smoked it anyway. True to the quality of Padron, the cigar was great. I've smoked many Padron in the past, but I have never encountered this before. Any ideas? Has this ever happened to anyone? It is probably the weirdest thing I have ever seen regarding cigars.

It's a security strip like they have in large denomination bills. Let's you know that the Padron you got has not been counterfeited.

jk- I have no idea what's going on (in my best towelie voice)

Oh my God! You pulled it out?!?

Look, chocolate has its Willy Wonka and his golden ticket. Jose Padron has his green thread of fantasy. Once every decade he places the delicate thread into one of his cigars. Whomever purchases the cigar and smokes it intact is supposed to have a vision. Upon waking from the vision you're supposed to transcribe it and send it to him. Jose reads the vision and rolls a special blend cigarette with your transcript. If your words are true then the desired effect is Ambrosia. He then bestows the visioneer with a lifetime supply to any of his various cigar lines.

Too bad.

Methinks the long green string used to be a long fat string that the roller deposited when he had a cold. X

That "string" as you call it was placed in one of one million cigars by the Padron folks. The lucky winner was supposed to let the Padron website know and the payoff was a life-time supply of PAMs worth in the neighborhood of $250,000, but ONLY if the string could be proven to be coming out of the cigar in question. For God's sake, whatever you do, don't smoke the cigar. Send it unsmoked to Padron and be sure to insure it (IMHO for at least $100,000). Hope this helps...........

Is this what people are referring to when talking about a "thread" jack?!

The string is actually a thread that was jacked off of this post, hence the term " thread jacking ". JonR

To all, ROTFLMFAO!

To NWB, In my 33 yeaes of smoking, I on got/found one gar with the "green string" comming out if it. (that I know of) About 3 months ago, hanging out of the foot. I was as perplexed as you probably were. I pulled it out with some difficulty, it up and waited for the mystery.

It was about the dimeter of mint dental floss. I'd hoped it had something to do with bailing tobacco than floss.

Who knows how many times I/we may have smoked stuff like that and not known it.

Hey chances are I got that or worse since I started smoking. Next year I'll reach the 50,000 burned mark.

Fuhgedaboudit, keep smokin'!

To RJDC - I guess it has something to do with the bailing, and yes, there is probably no telling what we all have smoked in the past. I've already bid on other cigars, so I guess this hasn't deterred me. Oh well.
