Smoked my first PAM tonight and can honestly say I was just a little bit let down. From reading all the awesome comments and reviews about them I had set the bar very high for this smoke.

The feel and construction was very nice very high quality. I clipped the end and took a pre-light draw, rich tobacco; everything up to this point was great.

I made sure that the light was as perfect as possible and took my first puff. The flavor, spicy was very nice but you can kind of expect that in a maduro. About half way I noticed a dark coffee flavor which was unexpected but welcomed. Overall the flavor was nothing like I had before and was very enjoyable.

Now the only disappointment, the burn was never even. It never got way out of hand and always seemed to correct itself but was never even. I bought three of these from a shop in Brandon (sorry DrMadVibe but still haven’t had a chance to get down to the other place) Monday and paid $16 each.

Do I need to let the other two sleep a little while? I really want to give these a chance.

Yes. Let them sleep.

Sorry to hear that.

I've smoked very few cigars that burned even; most seam a little off including Padrons. I think that is just because they are made by hand by humans. The fact that it semi-corrected itself most of the time lends some credence to the skill at which it was rolled. Many things can play a factor such as the humidity history of the cigar. Agree with the good Dr. to let the others rest then see. Overall, I've had very few Padrons that I've had to give a torch correction, but agree that it happens. The fact that you enjoyed the draw, flavor and aroma is key. IMHO, the PAM '64/'26 is one of the best cigars made today, but like anything it can have flaws too. Enjoy!

Sorry to threadjack but about the uneven burning. With my experience anything made by Davidoff ( Avo, Zino, Davidoff) has a very consistent burn even with me smoking outside in very windy weather.

Remington,
I too had my first PAM tonight. My experience was a bit different. I'd say let them rest and try again. Mine was EXCELLENT.

Personally PAMs are good/great cigars but I prefer the PANs by far.

PAMs are my favorite cigar.
Let the others rest. Uneven burn, may need to drybox it for awhile before smoking. Never had an uneven burn on a PAM myself.

Remington,

I had the same experience about a month ago. I tried my first PAM and it was OK, but nothing special. For the price I was a little disappointed. However, a couple of weeks ago I tried another one and it was definitely one of the best smokes I've ever had.

Try another one. If you don't like the second one, then you know that the PAM is not the cigar for you.

The most common problem I've found with uneven burning has been myself. Unless it keeps trying to canoe down one side, the uneveness is usually from trying to smoke too fast. Some cigars seem to be very sensitive to this, and just need to be sipped quite slowly. While others lend themselves to being chuffed like a train. I have not tried a PAM yet, but I have a PAN sitting that I might have to try out.

Also, improper toasting and not getting a good even light to begin with can start it off burning uneven, but most of the time it will still even out. Just a another few cents.

Just go to the trades board, express your interests. And be willing to part with a few of your good gars. No problem. It's a great way to try cigars you otherwise woudn't buy or can't buy.
