So who else survived the largest black out in history by enjoying a good smoke. I went for a Gurka robusto. Very Smooth on a hot summer night

I'm in NY and didn't get power back till this afternoon. Last night everyone one was out in front of their houses with flash lights and candels, firing up the grill or putting down a few cold ones. Gotta love New Yorkers. We turn a crisis into a block party.

Greetings,

Did the same thing. Went to the humi with a candle and picked out a CAO 65th Anniversary. Sat outside and watched the end of this month's meteor shower. With all the lights out, it was nice and dark for star gazing.

I can't smoke at night. Not until the power is back on at least. The other night I sparked one up, and a New Yorker, and 2 Detroiters came by. They said they were attracted to the light. I told 'em it was a maduro.

Newbies.

Freakin' CRAZY!! I live in one of the first Suburbs outside of Detroit with power. My small town was literally invaded by thousands of people seeking ice, food, gas, lodging.. 15 minute drive to work took me
an hour+.. we really take for granted all of our modern conveniences until we are without.

I have to say the people here were just great during the blackout. My drive home from work is always horendous. Anyone who has ever driven in a LI rush hour can attest to that. I sometimes sit at intersections for 5-10 minutes or more before I even get to the traffic light. The thought of driving home Thursday evening made me cringe. Not a single traffic light working! Would I ever get home? Well you know it wasn't that bad. People were curtious, yeilded and waved people on to get thru intersections. Civilians got out of there cars and started directing traffic at busy corners. A few college kids were doing this for hours and this was in 90 heat.

Everyone just paid it forward. There is a different mentality here since 9/11. I don't know if this is across the nation or just here in NY. But I was truly proud of the way the community responded.
