Just finished a tasting of 3 offerings from the new Diamond Crown Maximus Line ---Toro, Churchill and Belicoso. The sun grown wrapper on this stick gives a dimension to the cigar that is unlike any of the other top Fuente products (Opus X and Regular Diamond Crowns).

The other amazing thing about these DC Max smokes is how they worked the blending in the cigar --the smoke starts off with a spicy twang and stays constant all the way.. You better believe the band came off and it was smoked way down.

As a personal preference - my vitola of choice is always the Belicoso - however, the extra length on the Churchill really shows off the cigar makers art at its best.
I know these are difficult to find - especially in quantity -- however, they are worth every ounce of energy you spend in going after these tremendous cigars.

You are right on Docrks. These are a superb cigar. They remind me of an AF 858 SG with the volume turned up. X

Friday I set a new Herfing record, 4 smokes. Apparently I destroyed my palate and didn't know it. We drug the kids out for Mexican Saturday night and I commented how bland the food was. Then I finally lit up a DC maximus and was shocked to find out how mild it was. I finally put 2 and 2 together before wasting another stick.

What a waste of an anticipated smoke.

I wonder how long until I "heal"

Nice review Doc. I can't wait until I can get out and get my hands on a couple of these cigars. That is unless they are all sold out by that time.

I had a chance to try the Maximus #4 this weekend. I really love the other DC's especially the #7 Maddie so I had to try this one. Well fit and finish on this stick was superb and the weight and thickness of this cigar made it a pleasure to hold. The taste was a tad spicier then I cared for and it never let up. The volume of smoke was not as much as I expected. I had read articles on this cigar that likened it to an Opus X with a VSG wrapper so I thought what the !ell I might as well do a taste test. With about 2.5" of the Maximus left I fired up a #1 Belecosio VSG and smoked it down about 2" then began to pick up one after the other to compare. My chosen palate cleaner was a super Australian Cab (I know two great smokes and a good wine, but someone had to do it) Again fit and finish went to the Maximus it was a pleasure to hold due to the heft and with only 2.5” left it was staying nice and firm. I thought the VSG had the greater smoke volume which is something I look for in a cigar. As far as taste I found myself continuing to go back to the VSG more frequently. The VSG wrapper had a hint of sweetness that I enjoyed and was less spicy then the Maximus which I found tiring after awhile. Overall an enjoyable smoke that Maximus but at $16 a stick give me two VSG and a bottle of red anytime.

Great review and a super way to do the taste testing... great to read an opinion by someone who actually knows what he's talking about....if you are anywhere near New Jersey this Saturday - join us for the "Deck Herf" ---there will be some legendary smokes and wines (including 1966 Vintage Ports and pre-Castro Habanas, circa 1948) that will surely make the trip worthwhile.

Thanks for the kind words. I've been smoking cigars for quite a few years but only within the last two or so have I started to pay attention to what my impressions were. I'm also trying to develop my high end palate. I think my cigar attention to detail comes from being a wine aficionado which I have been for about 10 years now. Cigars I'm still getting the feel for but if you want to really talk wine drop me a line. Thanks by the way for the invite but I'll me in NC on a dove shoot.
