Most of what I've read says to keep the humidor between 70 - 75%. Perhaps 72 for
a typical digital that's +/- 3%. I did that and had some rather rank smokes when I got to the half way point. I forgot about a few sticks in a separate container that had dropped to about 65-67 for a while. Same brand as those rank ones. What a difference! Actually quite enjoyable all the way down with a great, even burn. Now for the question: Should I be storing them at 72% and smoking them at 67%? How long does it take for a 50 ring guage to make the change in a 65-67% humidor? Does the wrapper (Con. Sh., Camaroon, Maduro, etc. make a big difference? Are there any digital hydrometers that can measure the moisture
content about 1 1/2 inches into the filler? Does anyone have any better numbers to work with? BTW, the dried out Flor de la Reyes (under a buck) became a fair substitute for a VSG! At 72 to 75% it's a rank torpedo.

Rip I like to smoke all of my cigars that have been stored at no more than 65RH but especially maduros.
If you'll take the ones your planning to smoke the next day and let them sit out at room temp/humidity or in an empty cedar cigar box with no humidification device for 24 hours they should be just right. Also you really don't want to long term store any cigars at over 70RH & 70F.I keep my fridge-a-dor at aroung 66F and 65-67RH.Hope this helps and I know an over humidified cigar is really a bad experience!!

I am just the opposite, I often find a cigar that is not stored at 70% humidity or a bit more, especially non maduros, tend to burn hotter and the smoke therefore is also hotter, and not as much flavor. But a well aged and humidified cigar burns cool, and the flavor is enhanced. I usually keep my maduros at the top of the cabinet and the rest lower.

I also like to smoke a wetter stick, I have a smaller box I keep at 80% & load with a single layer of sticks that I plan on smoking within a week. After 3 days or so the cigars are slower and coolerand burn evenly if I've made sure they are not dry on one side.

Don't keep them at this level for long, but I age them at 70/70 don't put them in the wetter box until the are ready to smoke soon.
