Okay guys, three days ago I went to a cigar shop, the selection was brutal, wow tons to chose from. Upon close inspection I found tons of mold on the gars, I was really surprised, some of them were so bad I didn't even want to buy a gar there. But I did, I picked up a Camacho SLR double corona size, out of 10-15 in the box this one was the one that looked best.If you ask me I thing that stand up boxes just don't work for cigars, the mess up the end too much. Anyway I bought this camacho and when I got home I put it in the humi. Yesterday I visited the humi and decided to take the SLR to the porch, along with my punch and lighter. I sat outside and began my routine, looking at it I noticed the wrapper was tottaly coming off and in some parts was cracked. The bottom of the cigar was so bad I had to cut about 1" off!!! I will never shop there again. I think that that shop's humidity levels fluctuate too much, shrinking and balloning the gars, at least that's my .02. Anyway I proceeded to punch and light that bad boy, It light really good, which surprised me. There were some good flavors, of spice and leather right off the bat, it began okay. The burn was somewhat consistent, again it probably was due to the shops poor humidifying habits. Towards the middle of the smoke I tough of tossing it and cutting my losses, but beeing a generous man, I continued and spared the gar's life. I then purged the SLR and was like a blow torch. After this the gar turned arround, well almost, but the spice flavor began to pick up and it became a better smoke. I smoked the SLR to a nub, not too shabby, I can assure you that if this smoke was cared for btter it would have been a nice one. Overall an okay smoke, will probably buy one more, just not at the same shop.

I picked up 10 of the robustos for $30 here, and saw them at a local shop for 8.75 each plus sales tax, yikes!! They are great smokes when properly cared for, and cbid is the best place to get them!!!!

Nice medium smoke, but not one I'm crazy about. Spoiled by their Diploma/11-18/Liberty lines.

Do not confuse the SLR '96 with the new release. The old San Luis Reys are on closeout everywhere. They are, at best, an average cigar. The new release under the leadership of Christian Eiroa is an excellent cigar, albeit they may need a rest for stabilization and mellowing.

While not as full bodied as say a VSG, this is certainly a very very tasty cigar. The only problem I find with "boutique" cigars like this is the difficulty getting any consistancy from run to run. With one company in control of all aspects of this cigar, I hope they can even out the bumps between production runs cause I lik'em a lot.

I had a San Luis Rey this afternoon, one of those from a sampler that I think I sent $4.95 for or maybe it was free. Can't remember, it was several weeks arriving. Anyway the one I had was a toro size. Started out peppery, almost too peppery, but settled down. The middle half was a pretty good smoke. The last quarter was getting a little bit edgy, maybe it needs a few more months in the humi, but not bad. I'd smoke another one if I stumbled across it.
