Folks, Someone out there has to have had this problem.
I'm new to cigars and I need some help. Is there any cigars made with pipe tobacco leaves? Reason for this request is my wife likes the smell of pipe tobacco (I can smoke my pipe in the house)but she hates the smell of cigar smoke. I smoke 2 or 3 cigars during the day and would really enjoy having one in the evening after dinner.
Many Thanks
Rod

Try Cuban Honeys, they come in different flavors (Amaretto, Honey, and others.) You can get them on Cigar Internation web site, or do a search to see if they are up for bid here...Also Nat Shermans give off a nice aroma...

If you want to smoke pipe leaves why not just smoke the pipe?

You could try some of the CAO flavors. You could also check out Acid cigars. Ladies seem to prefer the smell of them to regular cigars. However, Acid are not for everyone so try a few before you buy a box.

There are several of them out there. My wife was the same way about letting me smoke a pipe in the house but not a cigar. She would even light candles around the house for when I came back in the house with that cigar smell. So I tried a bunch of them.

IMHO all those pipe tobacco cigars are nasty. Don't give me that same satisfied smoke.

Then I started smoking the good stuff. Fuente mostly. Now she smokes cigars too. Try the CAO Flavour line on her (Moontrance, vanilla, Honey). A good Fuente 858 works for a regular smoke. For her, it was that peppery air that she didn't like. Go for milder maduros like Diamond Crown, La Aurora Preferidos or any of the natural Hemingway stuff. She was always good with that.
or
Try the Drew Estate Ambrosia line. The Vann Reef has a terrific smell that women usually like.

Drop me an email and I can hook you up with some samples. I also have some links to some of those pipe tobacco sites. :-(

I occasionally smoke a pipe as well as cigars and I don't know why you would want to mix the two. I've never tried the acid line so I can't say what the aroma would be but as for the other flavored cigars like the Cuban honeys and others the aroma is about the same as a regular cigar, the flavoring is mostly in the taste. Being single I could smoke in my house if I wanted to but I chose to smoke outside anyway. Smoke particles tend to build up over time and before you know it your whole house is going to smell like your pipe tobacco. I have a good friend at work who has smoked a pipe for years. He doesn't smoke in his house but he does in his car. You can literally smell the smoke residue from 20 feet away as you walk past his car. There is also the second hand smoke issue. With the smoke lingering in the house you will be breathing it in for hours after you put out your pipe or cigar. Personally I say do all your smoking outside. Just my humble opinion..........

I would give very serious consideration to the Drew Estate natural line.

What about John T's? They are made w/pipe tobacco and come in a variety of flavors. I have not seen them lately, but they were not bad. My favs. are CAO Bella Vanilla and Acid One. The Acid One is imbued w/red wine, and whenever I light that up, people are always suprised at how wonderful it smells. Good luck.

Why is everyone comparing pipe tobacco with perfumed cigars ???? ... good pipe tobacco is not perfumed ... in fact, 'flavored' pipe tobacco will ruin a good pipe as quickly as 'flavored' cigars will foul a good humidor ...

I gotta agree that if you wanna smoke pipe tobacco, why mess around ... put it in your pipe and smoke it, don't worry about making a cigar out of it ...

That said, a cigar COULD be made from the same tobacco though ... no reason in the world why not ... but it sure wouldn't smoke the same ...

True Steve. But I suggested flavored and Acid because it sounded like the real problem wasn't that Rodney wasn't getting enough pipe tobacco. It sounded like he wanted to smoke cigars that his wife would think didn't stink.

I agree with trying the ambrosia and natural line from Drew Estates.

As a former pipe smoker...........steve is right on. Tobacco is tobacco and whether it is destined for a pipe or cigar is all in the curing process.

True pipe tobacco (that is without casing, also known as flavoring) will have a true tobacco aroma. Most of the English/Scottish blends fall into this catagory. They can flavor the tobacco but only 5% casing, and it has to be a glycerin base, (so most of it evaporates), which by the way adds to the cost. If you can flavor the tobacco heavily you can maintain consistency from year to year. If you are prohibited from doing this you must use only the finest tobaccos each year to maintain your blend.

My post is running long, but the point is that most pipe tobacco aroma is not from the tobacco itself, but from the casing sauce (flavoring) that has been added to the tobacco. A cigar, for the most part, is from beginning to end pure tobacco. Sooo, unless you want to buy cigars that have been adulterated by flavoring, they are going to pretty much smell the same as pure pipe tobacco, other than the difference in the curing process.

Bottom line is; do you smoke for the aroma or the taste? If it is the aroma you want, then it really doesn't matter all that much what you smoke (pipe or tobacco), since you are going to be smelling whatever has been added to the tobacco to give it the aroma.

If you smoke for taste it makes a tremendous difference. You want the finest, purist, best constructed pipe or cigar tobacco you can find. However, you can't get away from how tobacco ACTUALLY smells. Some people are ok with it and some are not.

As for me, I smoke for the taste of it, regardless of what the aroma may be. Just my preference.

What you are looking for is a line of cigars made by Carlos Torano, simply called, Rusty's Cigars. Do a Google search to locate them. Rusty's Cigars blend Peter Stokkebye's Nougat pipe tobacco with a blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan long filler. The binder is Cuban seed, grown in Honduras. All the tobaccos are then rolled in an Indonesian wrapper.
