Picked up a 5 pack a few weeks ago and let them rest in the humidor until last night. The cigar looks great, smells great, and feels great, so I thought I was in for a real treat. They seem to be highly regarded here and elsewhere, too. I lit it up, and started my smoking adventure. There was no doubt about it-- the constuction was perfect, I never had to bring a flame back to it, the burn was perfect, the ash held tight, and it was obvious a lot of care and attention went in to making this cigar. But to me, all of that stuff is for nothing if the flavor isn't great also, and I am sorry to say that the flavor just wasn't my thing. It was, well, kind of bland (uncomplex) and very mild. There was a peppery bite, but it was still pretty mild (try to picture a Don Diego with a little bite). Does anyone else feel the same about this? I did a little search and everyone seems to like it.
An analogy I thought of last night while smoking it... it was kind of like dating a beautiful lady that smells great, has mountains of curly hair, and is overall very attractive. But when the heat gets turned up, she just lays there. (no offense meant to any of the lady readers). I would rather have a lady that doesn't look quite so good, but is a real performer. Any thoughts??
I'll try another in a few months, and if it doesn't improve these well be up in the trade board. Maybe I can get some of those Bucanerros.
