I just purchased an iRiver MP3 player and realized I should have asked you guys for opinions first. Does anybody have one? If so how has it performed??

I ordered the iPF-395T

IMHO...

One shouldn't buy any MP3 player simply for the fact that the sound quality of MP3's, for the most part, is horrible.

P.S. Chris, I hope the one you purchased suits your needs and you are happy with it. They are all about the same.

I need something for working out at the gym and exercising in general. Therefore a CD/MP3 player was not really an option.

I already have a good home and car system so this is completely separate. And if you rip your mp3's at higher bit rates the quality is very good, I use 192kbs and higher...

"And if you rip your mp3's at higher bit rates the quality is very good"

...for an MP3.

They are very inconsistent. I understand the "convenience" of the mp3's, just not a big fan. Great for putting a reasonably facsimile of your music on a website but as far as listening for enjoyment, they just dont cut it for me.

Peace Out

I think the big difference comes in whether you get the mp3s from someone else or if you rip them yourself...

Anyway back to the real topic of the thread. Does anyone actually have an iRiver MP3 player that would like to comment?

I don't have an MP3 player but I have recorded over 9 gig of my own tunes onto my Real 1 Player on my computer.. record rate was 192kbs and I can attest to what CWil is saying the higher the rate the better the quality.. I can mix and match a cd to listen to in the truck or at work. I've got a shockwave portable cd player and it has served me well on 3 trips in the desert so far..allot of the folks at work had the MP3 players they liked them... I stuck with my Old Panasonic LoL... and many people borrowed it...

go with what works!!!

I just bought an Archos Mp3 player. I like it because it can be used both as an Mp3 player or a storage device. It is bigger than the irivers though so it looks kind of funny to be exercising with a harddrive attached to your side ;)

It just arrived today and I already put 40 songs on it, about half full. It's awesome and the sound is really great. Easy navigation and the software is quick and simple. I recommend the iRiver to anyone mp3 shopping.

cwilhelmi,
I actually have an iriver....I love it. I have had it for about 4-5 months. It goes to the gym/outside jogging with me 4 times a week and I have never had any problems with the player itself. The software is great. There are only 2 negatives I have found, neither with the player itself. 1) the headphones/earphones that came with it are too big and uncomfortable, and don't have a great sound. Easily fixed. 2) the lanyard that comes with it to wear around your neck sucks, it causes the player to bounce all around. To fix this, you can buy the special arm band, or more easily, put a piece of strong string through the lanyard hole and tie it around the drawstring for your shorts.

This little baby is super durable...I have dropped it a couple of times, and I am not afraid to let my girlfriend take it to the gym (which was the demise of my archos mp3 player. Also, the radio seems to work pretty well.
Hope this helped.

spence - mine came with the arm band, I think they all do now, I guess they listened to their customers complaints. Thanks for the info!
