Lifting travel bans to Cuba

The House of Reps recently voted to lift travel bans to Cuba for Americans. It has been approved two or three times before by them but never made it through the senate. This year though newscasters say it has got a shot. I wonder how this would change the ISOM market? Just kinda rambling.

I hope this is a step towards once again trading with Cuba...

But then, of course, ISOMs would probably lose their mystique, and there'd probably be a lot of nasty lawsuits between old cigar families and Cuba for the rights to the brand name.

But Bush has been saying he will not loosen the embargo?????? Will he veto it, the lifting of travel restrictions, if it reaches his desk?????

About two weeks ago in the local sunday paper, there was an ad from a travel agency...they were marketing trips to Cuba for December with all permits...they even had a information session at the local Marriott...

Maybe some restrictions are being lifted (i.e...travel groups and the such)...but not all???

if this Happens I'm saving my Penny's and the Wife and I will be going on the Honeymoon I never gave her Yet!!!

I read years back about a group of folks called the Harleistas in Cuba who build parts for their bikes out of left over military stuff.. and they run the old Pan heads and that.... I always wanted to go meet this group!!!

Bush has already said that he will in fact veto it. But the fact is that if it gets approved by the senate then this bill will start to pick up MAJOR publicity from the press and since I would say the majority of people want to lift the trade restrictions and with Bush's numbers dropping like a rock recently he could pass it for good publicity. Of course it might stir up more sand than it settles.
Anybody got any statistics on what percentage of Americans do/don't support the embargo.

I don't support the embargo so it is reasonable to assume that at least 90% of the rest of don't either, right? :-)

This is the third year this ammendment has passed the house, although this year with it's narrowest majority. The bill never has made onto the Senate floor, been bottled up in committee. Some mighty powerful people are against this and Bush has stated that he will veto if passed. I wouldn't hold my breath on this.

The reason it just passed this year was Fidel's most recent murdering and imprisoning of "dissidents". I love the smokes and the music from the ISOM but the politics are still totally wrong. Judging the polital climate here in FL. Bush will never pass a bill like this. He needs this state and the Cuban block.

IMNSHO, it makes no difference who the president is or which party he represents ... my guess is that the embargo will not be lifted as long as Fidel is alive ... but, once he's gone, it'll be lifted in a New York minute ...
