Cuban Corojo wrapper or Cameroon wrapper?

I have been smoking cigars for only 5 or 6 years now, and have had the opportunity to smoke many different types of cigars with varied wrappers, and I have found that I really do not care for the Corojo wrapper.

I have been told that a great deal of the flavor of a smoke emanates from the wrapper while smoking a cigar, and I have come to really appreciate cigars with a Cameroon wrapper! I find their flavor far superior to the Corojo, and never, ever harsh! Even on less expensive sticks!

Some of the most well regarded cigar makers/brands wrap their best with Cameroon, i.e., CAO, Cohiba, Cusano, Hoyo de Monterrey, La Aurora, Partagas, Perdomo... and two of my very favorites Trilogy(Native Cameroon) and Flor De Oliva(Grand Cameroon).

Does anyone agree/disagree, and am I just naively stating the obvious...?

chuckler,
I don't belive that there is a right or wrong on this one. Everyone's pallete is different and therefore their tastes are also different. You've said it right, you have come to enjoy the cameroon wrapers, so that's what you like, others might dissagree, but it doesn't mean that you or they are wrong. I myself are a sucker for dark oily wrappers and sungrown wrapers, the flavors that these wrapers emit is just wonderfull. I also enjoy a true cuban corojo, there is a distinct taste to it, a good taste, IMHO. On the other hand I only very seldomly smoke cameroon wrapers, I find them on the mild flavor side. But that's just my opinion, don't get me wrong I do enjoy cameroon's, I just prefer maddies and sungrowns!!!!

There's a wrapper for everyone. It's a difference of opinion what makes a horse race. Brazilian and Sun Grown and broadleaf maduros, mostly, for me, but I enjoy an occasional cammie or Conn. shade, or Habano.

Totally agree with it being purely an individual taste.
For me I don't have a preference for one over the other, as I also favor a nice sungrown wrap. My top choices in no order:

Don Carlos for the absolute best Cameroon wrap.
Camacho Diploma for the best Corojo wrap.
858 sungrown and DC Maximus for the best sungrown wrap.

jd1 - couldn't have said it better.

I normally do not like corojo wrapper either, but the camacho diplomas and libertys are incredible. They're the only corojos I will buy.

I am partial to the Trilogy Corojo over their Cameroon. Fact is, I like the Cameroon too. For the price these are underrated sticks, as are the Cusanos. IMHO

There is no corojo in PRC.
As for criollo, the Buc Salsa is da king.

Gents,

All well said! Please don't get me wrong, I love AF Sungrowns, and Don Carlos is an outstanding smoke (just pricy), and there are many maduros that I list as my favs, Oliva Os come to mind, as does some of the AFs, Partagas, and the Punch double Maduro (some call it Maduro-Maduro, its a great stick).

I was just trying to figure out why I did not seem to enjoy the favor of the Corojo wrapper, and why the Cameroon was such a favorite of mine. Granted it is all personal preference, but the Corojo is so well enjoyed by so many, I was in a spin, why I wasn't a fan!?!?

Strenght? Flavor? After taste?
I cannot put my finger on it?

Hmmmmmm???

chuckler, it is probably a combination of both flavor and strength. Corojo has a taste very different to cameroon, but it's up to someone's pallete. It's like this, some people like ketchup on their fries, others like mustard, others like thousand island dressing and some like mayo.....

Indeed, no corojo. What's up with that??????

Punch Rare Corojo

Punch Rare Corojo cigars feature a dark-red, extra rich-tasting Ecuadorian Sumatra Wrapper, more robust and flavor-rich than the original, has been released. It's rolled with Connecticut Broadleaf binders and a long-filler blend of Honduran, Nicaraguan, and Dominican leaves.

Robby,

Never tried one. I think there may be one in my humi(s) from a trade, I will have to try it and let you know!

Thanks for the recommendation!

yes, jd1, for future reference, 99% of everything that I say is sarcasm...(been reading way to many of Robby's posts...)

...pretty soon Ashton VSG's will be connecticut shade grown and L'Anniversaire Cameroons will be Brazilian....
