why someone would pay to see such a "cheesey" movie about Pearl Harbor when there is such a great movie in Tora Tora Tora available on DVD! Also, if you want a "love" movie about Pearl Harbor try watching "From Here to Eternity". In the meantime, I will smoke my Padron 3000 and enjoy the full, rich flavor! Charlie

Hey Charlie, did you see the movie? My wife want's to go see it next week and I am trying to talk her out of it after reading some reviews. A "girly" war movie? Not for me. Also, if you enjoyed "Tora Tora Tara" on DVD definately check out "Bridge on the River Kwai" and "Guns of Navarone".

I have the DVD of The Bride on the River Kwai, and no I have not seen the movie, only lots of word of mouth from people I respect! So, I guess I should not be too critical of this flick without seeing the thing, but really have no desire to see it! Just curious for other input! Charlie

when a person's wife actually wants to go and see a war film, that should send up the red flag immediately. What is it lately with these war movies and these damn love interests, the Stalingrad movie, Enemy At the Gates, should have dropped the love business, and focused more on what it was really like in Stalingrad. If you liked that movie, which it wasn't bad, see the Stalingrad film by the same director that did Das Boot, I liked it much better. Though Richard Harris kicked ass in Enemy at the Gates, and he didn't have any tart around to distract him either.

Das Boot, directed by Wolfgang Peterson, is one of the very best war movies of all time, and yes, I agree if your wife wants to go see a war flick..whoops, something wrong here! Saving Private Ryan was a great war flick and I enjoyed Ed Harris in Enemy at the Gate!
A great love\war movie would be "Casablanca".......one of the very best of all time! Charlie

Oh yea...a big red flag went up! But I figured since we don't get out much, I would give her the choice of the movie. Maybe the special effects will at least make it a decent "popcorn" movie. I also agree, Das Boot is one of the best war movies I've seen.

Jim, while I do not like his politics, I enjoy him on the screen. Have a rough time with Babs Striesand though and will not go see her movies. Among other great war movies "The Enemy Below", "Longest Day", "Tweleve O'Clock High", "Patton" and "The Blue Max".

I am telling all of you, see the Stalingrad movie made by the same director as Das Boot, not as good as Das Boot, but better in my mind to Enemy at the Gates. The Winter War is also a decent movie about the Russo-Finnish War. I still can't get over how we were allies with those communist creatures. Russia invades Finland, nobody gives a hoot, Russia invades Poland a few weeks after the Germans, nobody givse a hoot, Stalin murdered at least 10 million before the war even started, nobody gave a hoot, in fact Stalin had Roosevelt in his hip pocket.

if you can find it, "the boys in company c" is still one of the best about vietnam. if you can't find it, send me a blank tape and i'll send you a dup. also dalton trumbo's "johny's got his gun", but better to read the book than see the movie. it is the classic anti-war book. "pharlap" a horse racing movie at its best. [email protected] for address if you want a dup of one of these.

Note to self: No longer open any threads by Charlie ... he uses deception to get people to read his 'non-cigar and related' topics ...

I agree with Charlie...Even though this has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with cigars and the heading IS somewhat misleading, where else would he talk about a current movie?....The Political board?...I wouldn't think so...Then, the bastards that lurk over there would put his ****s in a sling like we do for posting in the wrong board...LOL

slimboli: and you are still here. i think we do need a general BS post. whoever is in charge, can you accommodate the restless souls, ever searching for someone to listen to us, hoping against hope we will be heard, needing human contact, reaching out, ever reaching out, our voices crying in the silence, please help us.

Hey Slim, I like cigars as much as anyone on this board, but I do have other interests in this world, as I hope you might have also. This is the way that Joe(Tailgater) got the sports fan board by flooding Cigars Related with sports, but we always had a statement about cigars and smoking. Something we have failed to do here.........I am not sorry if it offends you! Charlie

ME-ow meow.....HiSS HiSS...Maybe we should have a "Liberal" board where the bleeding heart liberals (definitely a minority here) can bitch and moan about the Presidency, gun control, abortion, and all the other issues that we differ in opinion with (I MISTAKENLY thought we already had a board for this, called the P O L I T I C A L Board, but I guess not since I've seen this type of rhetoric on all other boards, including the Trades Board (????Rick????)....Or the "Media" board, where we can discuss movies, television, newspapers, and other forms of Media....Or...How about the "I Have a Gripe" board, where we can bitch about the things that others do here that irritate us, or (leading up to) the "Dead Horse Subject" board, where those that wish to discuss those topics which have been discussed numerous times before (Overbidding, Acid VS Lars, you know...the usual stuff we gripe about (including myself) are able to without getting bitched at....(This is meant to be tongue-in-cheek...Don't take it seriously folks...LOL)...Keith

I've been hanging out at the 'DARKSIDE' too much lately ... I threbaited the hook, and got many bites ... some took it hook, line and sinker! I guess I was looking to 'stir it up'. But I agree ... Gonz, why can't we have a 'Clubhouse Room' where we can talk about anything, including sports ... and keep everyone happy.

That's so right, as I smoke my cigar and think about it, we need a board for catch all! Just watched "The Legend of Bagger Vance" on DVD, and really enjoyed the film. Very good movie. Charlie

Doc, I already have a Yahoo club with currently 60 members devoted to cigars (however, within the last couple of days it seems to have been "devoted" to (get this) recipe swapping)...I am thinking of changing the name from "KC'S Cigar Aficionados" to KC's Girlymen" (although not exactly correct since we just got our first female member)....LOL....Keith

Yesterday I stumbled across Das Boot on VHS for $5.50! Needless to say, also since I've never seen it, I bought it. Mostly 'cos Char5353 and aberdeen are both raving 'bout this movie. Apparently this version is a Directors Cut, adding aprox 60 mins to the original version, making it last for 3 hrs 22 mins!!!! This one better be good fellas, I'd hate to spend 3 hrs 22 mins in front of a bad movie. LOL!
