E-chick, have a great time! I was in Jamaica last year, and it was great and enlightening.
We stayed in Ochos Rios, and it just happened to be at the time of elections, so political tensions were high. People said it was not the safest place to be at that time, but I felt fine. I went with my brothers and sisters, and one night we went out to dinner, and we ran into a political parade. Everyone was happy, chanting slogans, and it was so festive.
We definately stuck out from the crowd, because my family is chinese, and everyone in the rally was of African decent. So a person in the crowd told us that the Prime Minister was down the street and that he was part of the parade. So we waited to see him. The Prime Minister was endorsing a woman for a very high position in Jamaica, and we got to see both of them. The funny thing is, she happened to see us in the crowd and pulled the Prime Minister all the way to us to meet us. So I got to meet her and the Prime minister of Jamaica. I later found out from our bartender at our resort that the candidate was actually part chinese, so that might of made her excited to see us. But it was so cool. Enjoy your stay!
