All,

I have now lost a total of 76 pounds in 7 weeks and 5 days (54 days total). Pretty sweet huh!

I am trying new foods every other day, and just tried a Junior Whopper with cheese a few minutes ago. I had to throw away the top bun, too much breading, but it tasted very good to me and so far it is sitting well in my stomach. This is a HUGE step in my recovery. I'm starting to get sick and tired of chicken!!!

This past Sunday I had pizza for the first time. I had pepperoni and mushrooms, yummy! It also tasted good to me and went down without any problems. My only problem that I had with the pizza was the gas it produced. Now that my body is only digesting 30% of the food I eat, my gas has been worse than a newborn baby's gas. I'm hoping that it will get better as my stomach fully heals after the surgery in another month or so.

Matt, great to hear all is going well.

So you're eating a lot less, digesting even less of it and producing gas. Becareful lighting up!

Maybe you flatulence can help California's energy crisis:-) PPBBTTTTT

I've been on Atkins for a little over 2 months and have lost about 22 pounds, no gas, or not any more than usual:-)

Terrific Matt. You're a strong man to put up with all this and it is great to see the payoff.

Hope to see less of you soon... er.. I mean, I hope to see the lighter you soon. I'll stand upwind, though.

Good for you, baby! Good for you!

Did you tell me what you did? I think my mind is gone...well, I'm sure it is.

Did you do that gastric thing? (Not that gassous thing)

Marla,

Yes, I had a form of gastric bypass surgery back on August 14th. What I had is called biliopancreatic diversion with a duodenal switch (bpd/ds). In essence, they remove your appendix, your gall bladder, make your stomach 4 ounces big, and reroute your intestines to where your body will only absorb 30% of all food intake (100% of sugars though).

This will enable your body to lose the weight at a rapid pace, and once the weight is off you will be able to eat anything you want without gaining much or any. The only catch is that you have to eat proteins first, then you can eat what you want aftewards. Your stomach will stretch out to where you will be able to eat a normal meal. Most people concentrate on meats and cheese products, similiar to the Atkins diet but you can also eat carbs without worry of weight gain.

WOW!?
Matt,
Well, I'm certainly happy for you. It takes a strong will to go through something like that! I hope that you had/have a good support system at home...it must have been painful!

Anyway, I'll have to let you in on a little secret of mine...I'm having a surgery next month too...not the same though. I've only told one other cbid guy so far...

The big H...as in, yeah, hysterectomy...UGH! Thus, the big trip to party and smoke...I've been told that I'll be laid (hah-huh, she said laid!) up for 4-6 wks or so...bummer...but I'm looking forward to the pain free times that will follow...

Well, I wish you the best in your efforts and a very speedy recovery (if you are still in that phase)! Keep us posted!

Rich and JJ seem to have done well so far on their Atkins...maybe I'll lose a few pounds along the way too!

Olive Juice,
Marla
