The Church Indestructible
Read: Matthew 16:13-20

You are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. —Matthew 16:18
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The chief executive of a large and successful chain of stores made a striking statement about the future of his company. He said that a hundred years from now it would be either greatly changed or nonexistent.

The same can be said about every human organization. Leaders come and go, consumer desires change, manufacturing methods evolve. As a result, companies either change or they don't survive.

According to Jesus, this will never happen to His church. Some individual churches may go out of existence, but the "gates of Hades" will never prevail against the church that Jesus is building. When He referred to "My church" (Matthew 16:18), He had in mind all believers—past, present, and future. Paul called this vast group the "body of Christ" (1 Corinthians 12:27).

The moment we trust in Jesus, we become members of His body, the church. And when Jesus used the phrase "the gates of Hades," He was referring to death, for Hades is the abode of the dead. One by one believers die and pass through those "gates," but this neither changes nor diminishes the church. They simply join those who are already victors in the "heavenly Jerusalem" (Hebrews 12:22-24).

Praise God, the church is indestructible! —Herb Vander Lugt

I said it was religious. If you cant handle it, dont look at it next time. If I do it again, I will mention again 'RELIGIOUS'

Got it Cigarick, if not too bad, youve been warned how to avoid it.

Mike,

I dont get it. You post a religeous thread. Ok, thats nice. You are strong in your beliefs and convictions. Which I have no issue with. But then you turn into a militant when someone doesn't like it..

Quote "I said it was religious. If you cant handle it, dont look at it next time. If I do it again, I will mention again 'RELIGIOUS'

You are basically challenging him! What, are you going to kick his ass if he reads and responds to another religious thread? Isn't that against what religion teaches?? Ya know, turn the other cheek? No, you would rather fight and berate others to defend your beliefs. I think you are conflicted.

And please, would you stop using the fact that you are a lecture and a eucharistic minister as some kind of ticket to be pius. I to was a lecter and a eucharistic minister years ago and I find it disturbing and disgraceful.

And here is the kicker. I have spent some time with you and found you to be a nice guy and have enjoyed the brief time you and I have had to talk. I never would have guessed that this was you if I hadnt met you first. Very Jeckyl and Hyde.

Peace Out

You are bypassing the fact that Cigarick insulted me 1st. Why should I take a line like " I don't know WHAT you've been smoking". These kind of remarks dont belong on these forums. Why arent you speaking to rick about that?

You call my response Militant? You are a bit too sensitive. Maybe you also need to stay away from the misc boards. If you cant take the heat get out of the kitchen. And my remarks really werent too harsh, considering the crazy "What you been smoking" remark.

You havent read all the threads I've been on. Others have questioned my knowledge. Thats why I may seem defensive when confronted about the accuracy of my posts.

Thats why I also have told my positions in my church. A few think that I dont know what I'm talking about. So to bring some validity to my posts, I've mentioned that I'm not the casual church attender. I'm a paticipant in the services. It's not to brag.

Now you think I should turn the other cheek? Maybe you are correct. Sorry Cigarick for my response to you. Are you happy now?

One last thing, I QUOTE:

"You are basically challenging him! What, are you going to kick his ass if he reads and responds to another religious thread? Isn't that against what religion teaches?? Ya know, turn the other cheek? No, you would rather fight and berate others to defend your beliefs. I think you are conflicted."

Where in your reasoning, do you see that threat, or chalenge? You have a twisted my words into an interpretation that isnt there.

The warning isnt a threat , its a way to keep folks that dont like religious posts from being aggrevated reading them.

I think you just dont like my posts. So, its really simple Dragon. Each thread has a title, I'm not hiding what its about. You can see its me, so dont look at it. Very simple. If you follow my suggestions you will have no problems, or aggrevation.

Mag,

I have nothing against your posts, and rest assured my senstivities have not been violated. And I have written these things not in anger, hate, or pissyness. Its just that I find it ironic that as religious as you say you are, you have zero tollerance for any conflicting opinions. His opinion is that your view on a certain item is askew. Should he have used other words to express that, yeah maybe, but he didn't. So, because you did not appreciate his choice of words, it gives you the right to warn him to stay away, in yes, a threating way. It seems that you are extremly sensitve to any remarks such as his. Regardles of the words chosen.

Just let that stuff go. Or better yet, if you cant "stand the heat" then dont post things that incite remarks such as his.

Ok, Im must say sitting here with a grin on my face in regards to your "if you cant stand the heat of the misc. boards" remark. Come on Mike, lighten up. This isnt real life, its a chat room. Does it really all matter?? You are obviously a very pasionate person, but I think it gets the best of you at times.

Peace Out

Magnafide: May I suggest that you write your posts in Microsoft Word or Corel Wordperfect so you can run spellcheck and grammatik, then cut and paste them into the forum?

Girls, girls, GIRLS!!! (Apoligies to any real girls reading this.) I don't *really* care what you all think, and you don't *really* care what I think. Jeez, it's just an Internet forum--you know, monkeys, typewriters, Shakespeare and all that. Pour yourselves a nice scotch, spark up a stogie, and chill. Life's too short...

Cigarick,

Ok, I may have long hair, but Im not a girl!

That was my point, its just a bunch of guys spoutin crap. I really dont give a rats either, but the boards are starting to get wierd in a wierd sort of way. To much Politics and Religion. To many people getting worked up about two bit opinions. Just had to say something. Read the last paragraph of my last post above.

Can I have Bourbon instead? I dont drink Scotch.

Peace Out
