It might come as a surprise to those of you who count your time on this BB in terms of weeks or months rather than years, but during the current calendar year, more than 40 high-calibre, long-time members of this board ... guys such as USAHog ... have chosen to leave this forum ...

There are a number of reasons for that, but most of all, it's the exchange of personal barbs that until fairly recently were almost never seen here, but which in recent times have become the daily norm ...

The time for that to come to an end is long overdue ... soon, this will have gone from being the most enjoyable cigar BB on the 'Net to being one of the least enjoyable ... the increasingly common personal attacks and the consequential departure of those more than 40 guys are absolutely intolerable

Exactly what I have seen on other Boards/Forums/Chats Steve. I haven't been on here very long, relative to others, but I have noticed the personal attacks from time to time.

Why can't we all just get along?

I have vistied other boards and they are highly offensive and derogotory. Cbid is by far the best and should remain that way.

From what I see, the posters from those other boards visit us as well and assume we are as juvinile as they are.

I agree that people should respect each other and each others opinions. We may not agree on political view points. I know I disagree with many people here but I have never resorted to nor would I ever resort to personal attacks. Playful barbs...well maybe,LOL.
We are bonded by one common element and that is the love of the leaf. X

I too, have found this to be oen of the "Nicest" boards out there. I've been here almost a year and I VERY rarely post on any religious or political threads since I now there will be pros and cons to everything. People who post on these types of threads have to realize that there will be others with opposite thoughts and views so they have to be ready to deal with that.

BUT, discussions should remain civil and NOT become personal attacks !!

I have been here, for a relatively short time, since Feb. of this year. I have visited and posted,at every cigar BB on the net, at least the one's I have knowlege of. This is the only one, where I can list the number of posts, to be in the hundreds. I other words, this is the only forum, where I have stayed. Yes I have observed some name calling, and personal attacks, but most are handled by way of another BOTL, standing up to the name caller, and they either retract their statement, or leave. Example Digisle. Even with the personal attacks, which seem rare here compared to other boards. This is the best cigar related BB on the net. Nowhere else, would I even think of calling another board member a BOTL. Just my .02

Seriously though, what's going on. "I'm out of it for a little while and everone gets dillusions of grandeur."

I've been out for a few weeks as I moved and took my DSL with me. What the hell happened? Hog's cool.

After the initial jd/Mag incident, I've treaded lightly with my political posts. I think it best to type your opinions as if the person/s you're talking to are in the room with you and being BsOTL, most of them garner a certain, automatic respect.

I'm with Steve, let's fight the good fight and keep this place civil, but if someone unfairly attacks you, try to ignore it. People who do this are likely not worth your time. F*** 'em!

Its a shame so many have left, but so many of the new guys are great. Let's just make the best out of what we have.

I agree with Steve, please keep personal attacks out of these boards. And everyone should remember, you don't always have to be right, you don't have to be the one to get the last shot in, and you aren't here to save the world or change any of our beliefs. Say what you have to, but let go when you must.

I agree. I have seen some of the personal attacks and it is just plain silly what they were about. We all have rights to say our say. And yes we are all bound together by a comman thread. And I know sometimes we take things personal or we say something in typing that could eaisly be misunderstood. And sometimes we have to say I am sorry and just go on. But thats the thing to do and then we can just all have a great time voicing our 2- 25 cents worth of stuff.

Slim, I read and re-read the Davidoff Cigars thread. There must be something lurking under the surface there that does not get through my dense cranium, because for the life of me I cannot see anything in there that would make someone want to resign. Not that I really need to know.

There are some rude posts on c-bid, but I don't think that the other BBS's are any more or less civilized than this one, and I like the core cast of characters here a lot, including the ones I disagree with the most on non-cigar issues. Feel free to accuse me of smoking counterfeit cubans. I ain't leavin.

I'm a long time customer/lurker/reader and occasional poster. I have noticed a large amount of childish outlandish posts/posters. That's what has swayed me to spend more time on other more cordial and new user friendly cigar sites than on this forum. But, I must say when I post questions the answers come quick and the ones that reply are great! I still will remain a member here. Great info and resource! Thanks to the owners of this site and to all those that make it a useful and entertaining forum!

Some of the other boards are more closely moderated. I like the looseness here. Kinda like an internet old west! When it gets nasty you can wade in or back away.

We all like this board very much and want it to remain the great forum it. But how on earth can it remain so if the posters that make it good leave? The answer isn't to boot the obnoctious newbie posters, but to stay and continue to post here dispite them.
To all those who feel that abandoning ship is the way to go consider this. The message that sends to the flamers is "Okay, it's your board now screw it up all you like." So everytime someone leave or threatens to do so you relinquish alittle more of the board to the Dark Side. The real solution is to stay on board, post in the manner you feel belongs on this board and ignore, do not respond to flames or obnoctious posts at all. Flamers are looking for a response, a reaction, a good fight. If they don't get it they will leave or maybe change the way they post. Some will stay but who cares, let there threads die and move on. We out number them. Don't judge the whole board by a few bad eggs.

So to all the old timers who are lurking and reading posts. Just post for god's sake!!! And help to bring the board back to the way it should be.

But I don't think it has any thing to do with a few bad eggs IMHO I think it is more that some of us have other things going on in our lives that are much more important and need the attention than does the Poor taste posting and bickering that goes on in here. Some people have a life outside the forum and I think that when all this garbage goes on in here they just say I don't need this I came here to relax and enjoy the company not put up with this kind of garbage and they just POOF..Case in Point is Hog he has some other things going on in his life that are important for his well being and he Loves this Forum enough to know that he may at a week moument buy into the problems here by tring to stand up for what he believes in and do it in a way that may not be to the standards that he whishes to live by. So it is better to take a break and take care of business than to keep coming in here to the unrest that some cause and have it affect him and what he believes in..Any how thats what I get from reading his posts over this whole matter..As for me when I made the commiment about leaving I had allot of other things going on that were Extremely important at the time and I didn't want to have anything to do with what was going on and the people or person causeing the problem. But as you say Ignoring those people is the best way to take care of them and I for One do just that now when I do have time to come in and chat with all My BOTL.. This is still the BEST Boeard on the web for freindships of a common Love the LEAF.. I for One thank ALL the Great people in here and the support they give each other when it is needed.. tar......glad to hear your dad is a "retired" ironworker. A lot of that breed don't make it to retirement. Hard, hazardous work and hard guys. I wouldn't take him on either:-)

Every cigar related forum has a rotating cast of characters. People come...people go, and for many reasons.

Often people will come to a bulletin board and stay until their opinions are challenged. Once they feel that they have to substantiate their statements, and are unable to do so, they annouce a perceived insult and leave. It happens on every BBS.

Others get tired of the religious and political posturing. At first they engage in a give-and-take, but then realize that others aren't open to any views but their own...so they leave.

Some people just get tired of the boards and occupy their free time elsewhere.

And others come and go and come and go and come and go. They say good-bye and return. They wave bye-bye and return. They threaten to leave and don't. It happens on every BBS, Cbid forum isn't unique.
