I have come in conact with a box of "cuban" cohibias. Everything looks good, 4 rows of squares w/ 2 that go completely around the top, proper wording on the band. The box has a interesting humidification system in it. Does anyone know of any sure way of telling, any small things that would validate this are real not fakes. I have known this guy for 10 yrs, and runs a good smoke shop. Just want to be sure I don't get burned, even if he did.

Authentic Cuban Cohiba's do not have a humidification device in the box. Perhaps you have the Dominican Republic version of the Cohiba. The price you paid for the box of cigars can also be an indicator of authenticity. A box of Cohiba Esplendidos are at least $425 box and up, depending on the country where you buy them.

Refer to CA to get the scoop on band authenticity. Great resource and I assume you may have already visited this site. That is not saying these knuclebrains can't start making exact band copies to infiltrate the market and I assume it has probably already occurred everywhere. Short of going to Cuba and purchase who really knows other than hunches.

Take a good look at the construction of the cigar. The top shelf Cubans are usually flawless in their construction (perfect cap, beautiful wrapper etc). The box should have several labels on it and a code (check the CA website for these). To my nose, Cuban cigars have a fragrance that is unique. As a favor to you, you can send me a few and I will smell them, smoke them and let you know how you did. Am I a nice guy, or what?
