Defend the Reagans

Dear NewsMax Readers:

As you are probably aware CBS is set to smear President
and Mrs. Reagan in the upcoming docudrama entitled "The
Reagans."

Our loyal readers know that we were the first to warn that
this program would be a hatchet job against the Reagans.

James Brolin, Barbra Streisand's husband, is set to play
Ronald Reagan. Based on scripts available to the New York
Times, both President Reagan and Mrs. Reagan will be
portrayed in a negative light. The producers have even
admitted to making up quotes that Reagan never uttered.

In the near future, we will be providing contact
information for you to let CBS and their advertisers know
your opinion about this portrayal of the President and
Mrs. Reagan.

NewsMax has been committed to keeping the Reagan legacy
alive.

It is clear many in Hollywood and New York would like to
re-write Reagan's history and destroy the record of his
achievements, especially now that President Reagan cannot
speak for himself.

We will continue to apprise you of developments about this
movie and ways we can work together to let your voice be
heard.

Thank you.

The Editors

Leave it to Mr. Streisand to portray Pres. Reagan.

I thought they were leaving America?

Oh, I get it now! If you can't leave it, then drag every one of the icons you despise down the toilet. Who knows, with a little luck maybe they can downplay every single President's acheivements so as to make Clinton a credible historic made for tv movie!

Rick, I can see this for what it really is.

Yeah, let's rip on a President that got more accomplished with an opposing Senate and Congress.

Let's stick the knife in deep in his back during the twilight of his shortened life!

The Reagans are going through a very difficult time, with Ronald being in advanced stages of Alzheimers.

Do you think this is the appropriate time to put even more stress on this family now? I think the timing of this film shows no class or compassion for a family going through tough times.

i think we can agree, it's the democrats first shot across the bow, for the presidential election next year.

from the dnc's point of view, it's the best time.

it my not be a good time for the reagan family, but it is a good time for the democrats.

please, no mention of "dirty tricks", the republicans have done the same thing.

My only recollections of the Reagon era were of the trickle down theory. I was unemployed in the early 80's during the oil crunch, as was most of Houston. There were no extensions on uneployment benefits at that time. No jobs available, so I worked at what ever paid a dime. Sometimes I didn't even get paid, but I kept busy. Bills past due, no food to eat, no gas to search out prosective jobs, phone diconented and then came the decision to tax unemployment benefits and I found myself owing $600 to the IRS! It was more like the "Tinkle Down Theory" for me. Non-the-less, I survived.

Yo BMW: Good for you, like 95% of Americans you put another hole in your belt and stayed the course. They called R.R. the " Great Communicator " or something like that. I called him the " Great Toilet Flusher ". Now allow me to explain, every so often we need someone to put our cities, states, and country back in the plus column. I call these officals " Toilet Flushers " because they raise taxes and cut spending and yes people get hurt by losing services and monies but in the long run everybody, city, state and country become better off because of them. Look At the surplus California had when R.R. left office and look how well off our country was because of his efforts. JonR

CBS Won't Air 'Reagans' Miniseries

__________________________________________________

NEW YORK — CBS announced Tuesday that it won't run the controversial miniseries "The Reagans" later this month.

The network said it was licensing the completed film to Showtime, a pay-cable network owned by CBS parent Viacom.

"Although the miniseries features impressive production values and acting performances, and although the producers have sources to verify each scene in the script, we believe it does not present a balanced portrayal of the Reagans for CBS and its audience," the network said in a statement.

CBS insisted it was not bowing to pressure about portions of the script, but that the decision was made after seeing the finished film.

The flap over the miniseries, which was set to air on Nov. 16 and 18, began late last month with a story published in The New York Times revealing portions of the script that were unflattering to President Ronald Reagan and the former first lady, Nancy.

That led to a firestorm by Republican-based political groups and Reagan supporters, some of whom threatened to boycott CBS and the products advertised during the program.

The Media Research Center (search) had asked major advertisers to review the script and consider not buying commercial time on the show.

In an unusual move, CBS officials said last week that portions of the movie were unfair and the film was being re-edited.

It is rare for a network to substantially rework a completed film just weeks before it is scheduled to be shown.

Though no one who protested the miniseries has seen it, it was condemned by the former president's friends and supporters as unfair and inaccurate.

Ed Gillespie, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, told CBS President Leslie Moonves (search) in a letter that historians should review the miniseries for historical accuracy, or the network should run a disclaimer that the program is fiction.

Gillespie said the miniseries might have omissions, distortions and exaggerations that could cause Americans to "come away with a misunderstanding of the Reagans and the Reagan administration."

Some questioned airing any dramatization of the 92-year-old's life while he struggles with Alzheimer's disease (search).

Gillespie said he hasn't seen the full miniseries but was uneasy because of news reports and brief clips that have been made public. He said he resents particularly how the miniseries reportedly depicted the Reagans' attitude on AIDS and how it was said to portray Nancy Reagan.

As a broadcast network, CBS has different standards than a pay cable network, CBS said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Prediction:

When William Jefferson Clinton's alzheimer's worsens, and he is on his deathbed, with doting ex-President Hilary Clinton on a brave bedside vigil, Rush Limbaugh will write, produce, and direct a TV Docu-Drama called "The Clintons", starring Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter.

The major networks will have a frenzied bidding war for exclusive rights to multiple prime-time showings, with rave advance reviews, and millions of messages of support pouring in from across America, the majority from registered Democrats.

College Professors from across America will proclaim the production a major victory for free speech and artistic license.

Thanks for the link. This just confirms that the movie was not made to be historically accurate, but a vehicle to destroy the memory of a great president... oh... and to make a few bucks.

Sounds like Patti has finally matured and found herself and her place in her family. Good for her. No doubt Reagan was as complicated in some ways as the rest of us. Also no doubt he is neither the AntiChrist nor the somnambulent buffoon that extreme partisans so self-righteously sneer about. A great majority of Americans were buoyed by his optimism and the love of this country that he communicated so well. He did win his second term by a landslide. The hanging chad crowd can't deny that. All they can do is expose their loathing for the great unwashed.
