I saw a couple of favorable reviews on the web. I went to the Felipe Gregorio website where they describe this cigar as heavy bodied and full power. They are also selling direct from the site at about $2.00 a stick. The brands listed as Felipe Gregorio's really don't excite me. Many are listed in the "T" catalog and appear to be a closeout. Has anyone smoked the Poderoza? What's your opinion. Spare me the Lorne Green, Dan Blocker, Pernell Roberts, Michael Landon jokes, please.

Getting them on cbid in the $1-1.50/stick range I would say they are worth a try. In my opinion they are not as full bodied as the description says. For a cheap priced Nicaraguan puro, I would recommend Mi Cubano which can be found at close out at $30/box. In flavor and body I would say they are simular. The main thin with the Poderoza to me is the burn and draw. Is it just me or is anyone else getting fed up the "traditional cuban box press" that seems to have become so popular? Padron, CAO and Perdomo dont seem to have any problems with it. However any others that I have tried without fail have about 50% of the cigars in the box that are either plugged or run like crazy. Even my favorite Hoyo Excalibur let me down w/ Prensado. Well I didnt mean to start off on a rant. Try the Poderoza, just dont pay much.

The brands that you mention that don't have draw problems with the "Cuban box press" generally reach the square shape using a different process than actually post production box pressing. Some refer to cuadrado molding, where there isn't nearly the degree of compression. The advantage of the damp forced box press is, of course, if done correctly, you get a long cool smoke from a smaller cigar. My instincts tell me that the trend toward square cigars will be passe' in a relatively short period of time. I think Perdomo's collaboration with a nameless internet vendor will soon release a cigar in the pre-Castro style and flavor. No doubt all the major players will follow suit. Early reviews say it's the real deal, and not box pressed. I'll skip the Poderoza's. Thanks for the heads-up. Steve*R
