Colin Powell Has Surgery for Prostate Cancer
Dec 15, 9:45 AM (ET)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Colin Powell was undergoing surgery for prostate cancer on Monday morning, the State Department said.
"Secretary Powell is undergoing surgery this morning for prostate cancer," the State Department said in a statement, adding that the operation was being performed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Powell, 66, will be at the medical center for the next several days before he returns home and he will be on a reduced schedule while he recovers from the operation, it added.

State Department spokeswoman Brenda Greenberg said the surgery was previously scheduled and was not an emergency procedure. President Bush was informed two weeks ago and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage was authorized to act in Powell's absence, she said.

"The secretary is fine," Greenberg said of Powell's condition. "If there are any changes in his condition we will inform you."

Wow, since when is it funny for someone to have an operation for a possible life threatening issue?

You and I frequently differ in opinions, but I do like it when you speak. I guess I just didn't find this one funny.

To joke about ones own operation is one thing, to joke about someone elses operation is another. JonR

I think some may have missed the subject line, maybe?

I think to what what Rick is referring, is when he said, "i know it's tacky, but i still think it's funny."

Yo Slim: So what your saying is it is okay to make a joke of someones serious operation as long as you say " I know it's tacky, but I still think it's funny ". I'll have to remember that next time so I can help spread the laughter too. JonR

I think Slim's hit the nail on the head, but I guess maybe it makes a difference if you know Rick ... I've known for years that Rick and I are political north and south poles, but I'm not bugged by his blather and he never gets all riled up by mine ...

I find his sense of humor to be constantly amusing and when I saw this post earlier today, I didn't take offense but just understood it for what it is.

If you copy JJ url completely it takes you to a google url that takes you to an anti Bush site. If you copy JJ url and leave off the front qoutation marks it takes you to Ricks url about Powell. Weird eh . JonR
