mike martz is not the coach i thought he was. if he hadn't lucked out with trent getting hurt, no warner, no superbowl, no martz.

with 20 seconds to go, against carolina, on the 18 and he runs the clock down and plays for a tie. and against a team that his defense couldn't stop.

next year lovie smith will leave for a head coaching job and my rams will once again sink back into the muck and mire.

i need a new team to care about. where warner goes, i goes.

some of the talking heads on TV were speculating that his goofy move could cost Martz his job ... perhaps you'll be able to remain a Rams fan after all ...

i have always been a pack fan also. favre is and has always been the man. his coach cost the packers the game with the punt instead of going for the yard at midfield. i can't recall as many games lost because of stupid play calling. by the time you reach the playoffs you should know your team. if they didn't trust green to pick up 1 yard, they are playing, like the rams, not to lose, instead of to win.

why not at least punt for a corner. they gained 20 yards on the punt.

i don't care who wins the superbowl. i don't even know who will be playing.

As I saw the game, Carolina beat the Rams fair and square. It was Carolina that almost lost the game with bad plays. Allowing a on-side kick, and getting a delay of game call during the field goal in overtime, and getting 13 penalties throughout the game. Carolina had the game, and let the Rams comeback, you can't fault Martz for that, eventhough I think Martz is overrated. And I think Bulger is a better QB then Warner. And I'm a beliver that "defense wins champioships".

"Martz is overrated" i agree.

first, bulger has no fire in his eyes.

second why do you think he is a better qb than warner.

all of what you say is true about carolina making lots of mistakes, but as even troy aiken asked, "why didn't he put the ball in the hands of bulger with probably two plays to go and a chance to win the game"?

Rick, very good points. I agree, the Rams should of gone for the win, but Bulger did have three interceptions in the game. A team has to play to win.
But I still think it was Carolina's game all the way, and it was they who let the Rams back in it.
Warner "was" a great quarterback, probably the best during his hey-day. But as of the present, I think Bulger is more consistent, and more patient then Warner. Bulger wins games, just not the last one game. He did get them back to the elite of the league. WArner has lost his touch, it might be the thumb, but he is definately not what he use to be.

I whole-heartedly agree with you that Bulger has no fire in his eyes, but from the last three Superbowls, the winning QB was not the best or the one with the most fire in their eyes. We know Farve, McNabb, and Manning all have fire in their eyes but for the last three years, Defense has won the Superbowl. Maybe, Manning and Mcnabb will get a shot to win one this year, but Carolina looks tough, and New England is so good.

Good post though Rick.

Rick,

As a Packer fan, "I feel your pain". I agree with you on the 4th and 1 call, should've gone for it, especially when your running back is averaging over SIX yards a carry. I am sure the offensive coordinator Tom Rossley will be under even more pressure after his decision to throw in overtime. Thanks for letting me vent. Good post.

The Rams are a much better team than the Panthers period!! Martz is and always has been a mediocre coach at best. The Panthers could not stop Faulk. that was proven the last quarter.

The Panthers did not let us back in we finally decided to play up to our talent level.

Why didn't the Rams use him like that the first 3 qtrs??

The Rams flat out blew the game. With the exception of Faulk and a few defensive guys no one played with heart. There should never have been OT.

You should be in St Louis to hear the outcry. Martz needs to go.

It was an exciting game. The Pack should have gone for it on 4th. My two favorite teams are now at home.

Go COLTS!!!

Not having cared who one the game, I do have to say that it was one of the most interesting games of the season. Both teams could have won that game multiple times.

As far as Bulger being a great quarterback, I don't think so. The system allows for him to throw for a lot of yards, but he can't get the ball into the endzone. H also threw 22 interceptions in the regular season and a few more in the playoffs. It's a testament to the Rams that they can win when their QB turns the ball over so often.

In response to Tonester's statement

"The Rams are a much better team than the Panthers period!! Martz is and always has been a mediocre coach at best. The Panthers could not stop Faulk. that was proven the last quarter."

My response is that the Rams may have more talent, but Carolina was the better team for sure. Both team's coaches may have had some tactical blunders here and there, but it seemed that Carolina was able to execute on their planned strategy more effectively than St. Louis. Their defense was more coordinated and they were able to adjust offensively to the loss of Stephen Davis much better than St. Louis could. In terms of game plan and strategic coaching and how that translated into player performances within the team on the field, Carolina really deserved to win.

But what a nailbiter.

So may playoff games into overtime this year...so cool.

Oh and I'd welcome any Ram fan wishing to shift preferences with my team for next season, except I think that would be almost impossible to expect a switch to a division rival. Too Baaaaaaaaaaaad

(next year the Seahawks will destroy you!!)

The Rams were outcoached and did not play with heart. I have to agree I do not think they deserved to win based on their performance.

A sad sad day but a very entertaining game.

Smelly leave the backy in the cars. Do not hollow them out and replace with wacky tobacky.

I root for the Rams cause they are the local team. My favorite team is the PACK. I follow that with the fins. I am pulling for Indy all the way. So waht if Manning played college in Tenn. He is finally showing this year how good he is.

Martz is the most overrated of the so called "geniuses" of the NFL (funny, we do not have genius ratings for other managers and coaches in other sports) and by far the surliest! I would expect that this little "oversight" of the time remaining and the tools at hand will not cost him his job....yet! But have a bad start next year and maybe bye bye to the jerk!

Hey Smelly,
What is a Seahawk and how far into the playoffs have they ever gone? Down here in the Bay Area we have five time Superbowl Champions and a bird called a pigeon (related to a seahawk maybe) heheheeeeee.
Sorry Dave, had to say it, LOL!!!
