Well, I can't answer all the other charges, but consider this:
Kuait was NOT "flooding the world oil maket with oil" OPEC tightly contols production, and allocates so much to be supplied by each member state. Kuwait was following their OPEC mandated quota, just like every other member state. Kuwait had loand massive amounts of money to Iraq to wage their war against Iran, as all Arab states are nervous about the Fundementalist Revolution that took place there in 1979, and general mistrust of the non-arab persians of Iran. When Saddam Hussein requested more funding, the Kuaitis refused, and demanded Iraq begin repayment of loans already made. Unable to comply, Saddam desired to invade Kuwait, and seize their assets (money, and oil producing quota) for Iraq, to reopen his war with Iran. There were some mixed signals "the US has no opinion on the border dispute, could be interpreted as a "green light", or simply that dipomatically, we would not take sides. Obviously, Saddam interpreted it as a green light.
It is interesting to note that in spite of claims that the US was heavily backing the Hussein regime, their military was equiped with SOVIET hardware, not American. The attitude that the enemy of my enemy is my friend has bit us in the A** on more than one occaision, but this doesn't mean that it was a known collusion with a megalomaniac.
All these known distotions taken into accout, casts serious doubt of the earlier "facts" cited. I personnaly believe it's more of the self flagellation by the liberal left, saying that all we've had go wrong in the past 30-40 years is our own fault, and we ought to just sit back and hope it goes away.
