Latinos resent term, compare it to use of N-word for blacks

Though it might be technically accurate, calling someone who entered the U.S. in an unlawful manner "illegal" has become politically incorrect.

well, i don't blame "latinos" for resenting the word, because LATINO DOES NOT EQUAL ILLEGAL ALIEN or immigrant or anything of the like.

some "latinos" have been in the USA for more generations than the Daughters of the American Revolution.

so when you equate a LATINO with someone who just ain't supposed to be here, then yeah -- that IS offensive.

if you're talking about people from other countries who are not here legally, then that's another story.

but get it right: a latino does not an illegal alien OR an undoc'd worker make. sorry, but that just annoys the pee out of me.

GTOman really seems to have a problem with latinos. Maybe he was beaten up as a kid by a latin kid and it has left an impression. Or had his heart broken by a hot latina. Your arguements are no different than the ones forwarded by the then current population in the face of the european immgration of the 1800s. We will survive, just like my relatives survived the immgration of your relatives. Anyway...here are a few reasons to allow this immigration as my relatives so graciously allowed the european immigration.

ducati996 what arguments do I have? if you read my other posts, you would see that I don’t want us to have any borders what so ever, im all for letting everyone into this country, I even stated in other posts that we should fly in people from third worlds at our own expense.

by the way i happen to be part latino.

Perhaps "wet-back" is more preferable?

Let's face it, most folks don't get upset that people from other countries come here legally and work legal jobs on a legal visa.

Key word is "illegal", not "immigrant". Don't let the liberals twist this into something it's not; namely bigotry.
And to equate the terminology with the word **** is entirely unfair. The former can be an accurate, unoffensive term and the latter can never be used for anything other than an insult.

At least by a white person...

I prefer the term economic terrorist. They are undermining the economy of the US.

pentz8,

Again, the same arguement was used in the 1800's. As far as undermining the economy, nothing could be further from the truth. Watch the effect on the economy when 5 million low paid, tax paying employees are no longer available. BTW, these types of jobs have traditionally held by immigrants since the 1800s. The difference now is the protectionist legislation currently enacted. The moral obligation still exists. It didn't magically change after your relatives emmigrated to my relatives country.

When immigrants of any nationality come here legally, they are a potetial attribute to our economy.
When they come here illegally, they usurp our resources and don't pay taxes.

The two issues are seperate.
We simply don't need illegals, and we shouldn't want them, nor should we reward them in any manner.

It's like viewing welfare as a cancer. When a person becomes unemployed and use welfare as a temporary crutch in order to become a contributing member of society, that is a good thing. When a family remains in the welfare system for several generations of **** kids, they are a drain on our tax base and hurt this country both financially and morally.

Illegals work jobs that lazy Americans won't. If you made them all legal, when the economy gets bad, you have to offer government wellfare. Illegals are good for the economy in good times, good for low government liabilities when bad times come, but bad for humanity.

BUT, they are still better off being here illegal, than where they came from.
