I have not been smoking premium cigars for very long. I smoked a 1964 annaversary series maduro torp. It was a nice cigar but im not sure it was worth the $20 I paid for it.

i hear ya...everyone hypes the VSG's so I tried several and found them to be good, but not the earth-stoppers I was led to believe.

Cigar tastes and preferences are very subjective ... as in favorite foods, drinks, cars, clothes and even the type of women we prefer ...

Personally, I never judge a cigar on the first one I've smoked. I find that cigars taste noticeably different in the morning, than they do at night ... for example.

Also, it depends on how much age they may have on them ...

Got to agree with slim(whoa did I just type that?). Different days, after certain meals, different sizes all make a difference. I like some vsgs and others are just okay. Never had a bad 1964, in fact i love those things. If you have any more just send them to me and I'll put you out of your misery. If your paying $20.00 for a 1964 start surfing dude. There are better prices.

The best cigar that I have smoked to date was a Fuente Cuban Belicoso Sun Grown, you can buy them for about 6 dollars. But the thing about this cigar that made it great was that it sat in Carlitos humidor for 3 years. This stick was a first edition of that cigar line by Fuente, and I won it in a raffle at the local cigar shop. The 6 dollar sticks are good, but I don't think that I can leave one in the humidor for 3 years to see if that was the real reason it was so good. I can't figure out how Slim did it.....yet

I myself prefer the Padron Anni's in natural / PAN's.
$20 is way too much,$10-$12 is about the MSRP on that particular smoke I believe but you'll be hard pressed to find them for that.Heck I'm in So Cal and my local guy only charges $15

Since I am not a techno geek like many of you I will stick to the boring format seen here! However, I agree with Slimboli (wow) that cigar taste is very much dependent on time of day, amount of drinks, food, etc! Aging of cigars is one area that I have learned improves drastically the taste of some of the questionable cigars we acquire through various means. Here I go on the Napa Reserves, I had rather have those than many of the higher priced cigars we have mentioned! Charlie

Napa Reserve Canary Islands can still be purchased at a few online sites ... and they run from $140 (corona) to $170 (figurado)a box ...

... I wouldn't call that CHEAP!
