Trying to Right a Wrong.

Folks, I’m trying to right a wrong done to a BOTL. I have wronged a very fine BOTL who goes by the handle Cruiser. May I start by saying that first I’m a very private person so authoring a letter such as this is very difficult, I’m not a writer nor am I eloquent of speech, so please bare with me.

Just before last Thanksgiving Cruiser sent me a box of hard to find cigars and I was to send him what they cost + S&H. I did so through my assistant at work. Shortly thereafter I found that the check I had sent had not cleared. My assistant (of 12 years) claimed at that time she accidentally sent them to Iowa and not Ohio. That day I packaged a cashiers check plus about 10 of my best cigars and shipped them (again through my assistant at work.) Then shortly after Thanksgiving my home/business burnt to the ground. A total loss. 85 years of irreplaceable historical data was lost, plus about 100 fine cigars including what Cruiser had sent me . The day after the fire my assistant vanished. She has since been found and arrested with her boy-friend. After some investigation I found that she had embezzled 12K from my business in less than a week. On December 15th my world stopped when my daughter was admitted to Dornbecker’s Children’s Hospital for the treatment of cancer. Since that time I have been mostly living in a fog.

So this is where I’m at. I sent Cruiser (I thought his handle was SB – all of my e-mail and hard file records were destroyed) another cashiers check (3rd one) and a few cigars (all but 5) that were not lost in the fire to try and start to help heal the wounds that I’m more than sure were created from the events that have transpired. I laid myself open to him and asked his forgiveness for taking such an unreasonable time in seeing through on our deal. Cruiser has been nothing but kind, honest, and honorable in this and one other transaction I have had with him. By all accounts he is a tremendous person.

This brings me to all of you. I realize now that I need to ask all of you BOTL and SOTL for forgiveness as well. When someone has a trade go bad it damages the trust that you all build with one another. It is difficult to express the guilt and remorse I have over this matter. But please know this. If I were financially able I would fly to Ohio and hand delivered the best I could give. It’s just not possible.

So there it is folks – I have no excuse, but only offer this as a testament to what took place.

If you all wish me to leave the site and boards I will honor your request, for I am aware that a wrong like this may not be able to be righted.

Thank you for listening.

SA, it sounds to me like you have been through a living hell.
Send me your snailer and I will send you a few modest smokes to help get you started again.

First, My prayers are with your daughter, nothing else really matters.

Second, No need to apologize, this is between you and the Great Cruiser himself.

I am sure that not a single person will harbor any malice if you make the deal square. You understand how he felt, he'll understand what happened, heck .... I'll start, what do you covet? My addy is obvious.

Scott, class act. How can any of us hold this against you? If I were to experience what you have Cruiser would have been waiting months. The news of any of my children having a serious illness like that would have devastated me. Add the business issue on top of that and I probably would have lost it.

I salute your honor and ability to cope. My prayers are with you and your family. Let us know how your daughter is doing. If I can do anything to help do not hesitate to contact me.

Damn, just when I think I’ve had it rough the last few months……

I would worry one bit SA. Things happen in life and sometimes they keep us from things that need doing. It sounds to me like you’re a completely stand-up guy. You had no idea what was going on behind your back and despite all your losses you still came through in the end on the deal you made with Cruiser.

Most of the times I have been on the receiving end of a bad trade I only get the excuse that “I’ve been real busy and haven’t had time to get by the post office, but I’ll send your cigars just as soon as I can.” Or the old “I was involved in three other trades at the time and yours just kind of fell through the cracks. Sorry, I’ll get them out in the next few days.”

Anyway, sorry for your string of bad luck and I’ll include you in my evening prayer. Don’t kick yourself too hard over this. I cant say I recall reading any other posts from you but just based on this one I would have to say I would trade with you any day.

SA, was the one who made a humidor and offered it up in a lottery to the forum for nothing.

He may have too much pride to give out his snailer but I have it and would be more than happy to share it.

My wife will be praying for you and yours also.

Thank you all for your suppport. It will take me some time to respond to all of your kind words. I think there was some confusion of who I am. I didn't do the humidor thing, sorry. I havn't posted with exception of two or three times. I don't even know yet if Cruiser has received my package yet. It should have been there Wed. I don't have his e-mail and I'm not even sure how to respond to some of you. I'm not sure what the "beware brothers" is either? But thanks so much again for all of your support. I'm still trying to do right by this.

JonR, beware of what, he didn't represent himself as SP. And he didn't ask for anything but understanding. I'm not sure why you are shouting to beware of him.
Explain please.

First thank-you gorob23, fudge, [email protected], bassdud, CWFoster, kcody for your kind words. To maybe clear some confusion. I’m not the SP some of you are speaking of.

After thinking about JonR’s response I believe it would be best just to let the dust settle a bit. I don’t want there to be any misconceptions or perceived impropriety concerning my post. I’ve started to bid on a few lots the last couple of weeks and the joy of being on the site is slowly coming back. Maybe it just preoccupies me for a while. I don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings you understand. Your responses, for the most part have all been so kind.

Again I would like to say that Cruiser has been #1. I can’t say enough about his generosity and kindness in tracking down the cigars I was seeking. I wish I could have enjoyed more than one or two of them. More than anything I want this to be square with him.

Well it’s late (West Coast) and I’m on my 39 hour without sleep and I promised myself and my wife that I would take the time and smoke one. My father gave me a Butera Dorado Bravo Corto tonight so I suppose that will be it.

Good Night, God Bless

"sa" Hello BOTL I just want to say I hope thins start to turn better for you and yours this new Year.. And I'm sure that there isn't any decent BOTL or SOTL in here that would want you to leave. Hey Sh** hapens and some times we have a whole string of it at once happen to use.. (I should know) LMAO... And as for the others wanting to offer up some help in the fashion of some smokes isn't to make you feel worst or like a mooch it is because in here we are family and when family hurts we all hurt and it's our way of trying to help out some one who needs soom SunShine...So there are ways to get your snailer and believe me we will so all you can do is sit back and enjoy some good smokes and remeber that there are those out here who care....God Bless and Hang in there BOTL.... I havn't heard from him. I guess I really don't expect to. I got the impression that he may travel often. I hope my package for him is sitting outside in the elements or something. I can't seem to locate the darn receipt the person at the Post Office gave me (not unusual for me lately. I don't have his e-mail any longer, so I was just waiting to see. No responce is necessary on his part though.

May God's blessings rain down upon you...

Sometimes, a fresh start is a blessing in disguise.

By losing everything, it has ultimately brought your daughter into focus. Not that her illness wouldn't have...but it is all you need to have in sight at this time. Everything else will fall into place in due time.

You are an amazing, strong and honorable man. More people need to exude your traits in this world...it truly would be a better place.

Thank you for your openess and deep concern over something as small as a cigar trade, in relation to what has transpired.

I think that some may have thought you were trying to pull the wool over our eyes...I don't believe so, but eventually it would come to light if you were. For the most part, we here have the utmost integretity. And until proven otherwise, should be respected as such.

God bless and hang in there...you've got a lot of people all over the U. S. 0f A. sending well wishes and praying for you and your family.

Marla
