Stinky humidor

I made a rookie mistake. I still am a rookie I guess. I put some rather aromatic cigars (no cello) in my humidor with some of my favorite Belindas and Padrons (also no cello). I since decided that I did not like the aromatics and uncerimoniously ejected them. Actually I gave them to someone I didnt particularly care for. But now I have a bunch of stinky cigars that taste terrible and a stinky humidor. How do I get the smell out of my humidor????

Burn it. Burn it, and anything that has come in contact with it. Buy another humi, throw a pinch of salt over your shoulder, send everyone who replys to this a gift package, and promise to never do it again.

Keep in mind that cello doesn't stop the smells from transferring from one cigar to another...NEVER put them in the same humidor regardless of whether they had cello on or not...Best bet is to have two separate humidors, one for the "aromatics", and one for the REAL cigars (LOL..Couldn't resist;)....Good luck!

It seems to me that burning my humi is a bit drastic even though it would help with the smell. Is there a way without destroying it???

That sucks about the humi this is the best advice I can give to you. Take some arm and hammer and put it in a shallow pan or tupperware container. Put it in your humi and let it sit for a few days. Also try the same thing with vinager. Both of these products will take the odor away. If it doesnt work completely than at least it will limit the smell. If you have sedar stips in there get rid of those also. If the smell is still to much replace the humidification device as that will accept all the smells in your humi. You might want to replace it anyways. The cigars may need time to "air out" so you can wait and see what happens or you can smoke them anyways, its sort of a gamble no matter what. Hope this helps you out some.

Save the "infected" sticks though. Next flu you catch, those are the sticks to smoke. You won't taste em but you will know your smokin a good cigar. Do what romeoy says and tell us how it comes out...success! or bonfire!

Take 3 fresh cloves of galic, one half onion thinly sliced, and the broth from boiled shellfish, like clams or mussles. Combine all the ingredients and let sit several days in direct sunlight. While this sets, lift the humidor in question to a height equal to 1.47 times your weight in stones. Spin the humidor at least twice a day while singing a Simon and Garfunkel song other than Bridge over troubled water or sounds of silence. Now here's the weird part: rub the now fermented mixture all over your face and under each armpit. This is guaranteed to work. Tell 5 friends and you will have good luck.

If you follow tailgater's advice, you won't have any friends to share your luck with. Just smoke the damn cigars and live for another day!

Wow, oodles of great advise. Anyone of these methods is sure to work. TG, could you use Vidalia onions, or Spanish?

After counting the beads and saying your hail Mary's take all the "aromatic" cigars (this includes any Acids or Lars also) and find some fool who thinks he likes cigars and gift them to him! Tailgaters advice is really good, but add some scotch bonnet peppers to the mix along with the garlic, etc. Charlie

Oh, and if you have any cigars that have been "Monica'd" like the ones Billy Boy used to enjoy it is best to store them in their own private humidor. Ha! Charlie

The stinky cigars were in fact fake Lars. I had never heard of them before I "won" them. I gave them to a irratating SOB whom I have not seen since. While Tailgaters advise is interesting I was wondering how many times he has done this himself.

Ell, I'd try replacing the cedar lining. If you can't do it yourself, I'll bet a local cabinet maker could do it pretty inexpensively. Ron

That would be Honduran Mahogany. All wood shops carrie it if they don't carry Spanish Cedar.

You may want to try rubbing down the inside of your humidor with denatured alcohol a few times. It worked on a sap problem I had with mine. The denatured alcohol evaporates completely and may take some of the "stink" with it.
