I just called and activated my new card today. The gentlemen spoke with an East Indian accent. I asked him where he was, he said "New Delie"(sp) As a result of AMEX shipping jobs to India, I'm considering shopping around to Visa, and Mastercard to see if they have call centers here in the US. If so, I'm going to transfer my balance.

Last week CitiGroup announced an EXPANDED call center in Louisville, Kentucky. Doesn't get more American than that.

Did he answer the question of "where he was" or "where he was from?"

Robby, don't transfer until you find out if you get miles on the phone calls to/from AMEX in New Dheli...LOL!

Don't want to give up any miles......

I just got my AMEX Delta miles card last month and the Miles card from Discover. Not that I'm a big charger, prefer the cash-pay-as-you-go-when-you-can-afford-it method myself.

But since I pay things off immediately that I can't purchase in person or HAVE to use a credit card for, I decided that these two just may get me a bit closer to the Caribbean...

Check out Discover and get back to us about this matter...we gotta stick together!

btw, never DID see anymore pics of your bath remodel...how'd it turn out?

Charge it.............................Marla

On a related note,
Does the US GNP numbers differentiate between goods manufactured here and goods manufactured in another country, by US companies???? I got rid of my Gateway computer, when their tech support went to India, And I will get rid of any software, or hardware, whose Tech support is not in the US, so I only have to translate what they are saying, from Yankee, to Southern. LOL

Dave: Time to dump your Microsoft software and go to Linux. One of my clients called MS tech support last week and got a return call from India.

If it means an American keeps their job...we should be able to make that sacrifice!

It's not like those companies are passing any saving on to you! Last time I checked a computer system was still around a grand, operating systems were around 300-450 bucks. CEO's aren't taking any pay cuts.

Be American and support this. I could very well be your job that goes to India,Pakistan,China, former USSR or any other 3rd world country that will work for chump change.

Boycotting companies that ship jobs overseas is a complicated can of worms once opened.

Some companies are directly passing the cost saving on to you through lower prices, others pass it on as shareholder value that might be affecting your 401K or other investments.

Are you sitting at an inexpensive Dell computer right now? Call Dell support and see where the call goes.....

i think it's especially hypocritical for AMERICAN express to have exported those jobs. :P

as for call centers, ya know, it's weird. i was moonlighting as a security officer doing overnights at a big commercial building in mpls. there were only a couple of floors that were occupied with workers overnight, and they were Dell call center workers -- providing support to dell users in INDIA and the UK.

wtf??

Hey them folks over sea's gotta eat toooooo...

with that said it's like Hockeydad points out.. We americans put the screws on ourselves demanding hire pay with less hours etc etc etc... to be politacally correct we have not only allowed these companys to move over sea's to cheaper wages etc.. we've pushed them to that...by doing nothing more but b!tching about it.. it simply slipped away, is there a way to get it back.. sure but it's going to cost everyone with higher costs across the boards... Nafta/Gat/ all the above we allowed our elected officials to shove (pardon the expression) up our A$$'s.. to overturn all this it will cost financially and physically, not to mention mentally....

Dave... I did not know this about Gateway??? I'm not going to toss my two computers in the toilet just because but I will refrain from purchasing another through them... although I am happy with their products thus far.. they have said in commercials the only american homegrown computer store... hmmmm
