The Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) has a problem, a lot of customers are refusing to pay their gas bills. The PGW is not allowed to shut off gas service by law in the winter months and is losing alot of money. The PGW has come up with a novel way to make up the loss, as of December 1st they will charge all customers who pay their bills an additional $75.00 to make up for those who refuse to pay their bills. Our Dishonorable mayor john street agrees with PGW. I have oil heat but my stove is gas and I pay roughly $144.00 a year. Before I would pay I would buy an electric range. My question is, would you pay the $75.00 a year ?

there should be a class action suit brought against the mayor and pgw. i suspect what they are trying to do is illegal.

perhaps all the people that might be required to pay the extra money could get together and refuse3 to pay their bills.

Sorry,I'm in So Cal and have been dealing with excellerated gas and electric prices for some time so I'd obviously be of no help at all.Although I'd prolbably buy an electric range myself,except they suck!

Oh... in response to the question... Legally they cannot make someone else pay a bill that was defaulted on by another. Spin it as they may, that's not legal. What they should do is make it legal for the gas companies to turn off the gas of deadbeats who do not pay.

So they die, so what? That is called natural selection.

Science and medicine have combined to infect the human gene pool. Some dumb folks, who should have died because of their inherent stupidity, have been kept alive by science and medicine and have been allowed to perpetuate the infection. Which brings me to my new motto: Stupid people shouldn't breed. It makes things harder for the rest of us law abiding, bill paying, contributing members of society.

The class action suite shouldn't be against the gas company and the mayor, but the people who haven't paid their bills. There should be another legal action brought on by the utility to get that stupid law, about not being able to shut off the gas, taken off the books.

I am amazed that people have such low gas bills to begin with. I pay about $120 a month for gas.

Gotta love California.

I have gas furnace and water heater but an electric stove. Changing all to lectric would be a bitch but if it was only the stove I'd change and tell em to shove that $75 charge.
