I'm wondering if this whole friggin' war was supposed to be for oil (so say the dems)... why have we not tapped the wells yet? Why are gas prices so high?

Wait... I know. Perhaps we wanted to liberate a country from a lunatic dictator and at the same time ferret out any taliban.

Screw it. I still think we should tap those wells and use THEIR money to rebuild their stupid country. F**king rag-heads.

I think we should pump the oil and use it for ourselves. Any profit goes to the U.S. Treasury.

What is happening with respect to oil production in Iraq? Kind of a mystery don't you think?

we can make oil from coal in an extraction process whats leftover is called coke and is what steel mills burn. Just in western Pa there is enough available to supply our country with gas for the next 250 years. the production cost woul make the prices about 1.75 a gallon but the money stays IN THIS COUNTRY!!!! in the past this was cost prohibitive and envimetlist fight these things just for kicks. If we did this we solve the job situation, the deficit including the trade deficit, the fuel shortages we suffer every year, best of all the middle east will become impoverished witout are revenues. Instead of buying bombs they'll have to use their money for food probably from us. so tell your elected officials to get off their asses and let's get it movin !!!!!

Now that the Bush administration has eliminated funding for alternative fuel research, along with OPEC cutting production 4%,gas prices are going to soar. X

Have you hugged your hybred today?

Try getting the Dems to open up the oil field in Alaska and rid ourselves of dependence on arab oil

What you & Jack said--many of the environmentalists are the true enemies of alternative fuel sources such as coal, Alaskan oil exploration, AND nuclear energy.

Good article on gasoline price history.

http://www2.exxonmobil.com/Corporate/Files/Corporate/gpip.pdf

Basically, adjusted for inflation and considering the taxes that federal and state governments add to gasoline prices, the current US prices aren't bad. Check the prices in Europe if you really want to make yourself cringe.

Ooooh. Gonna put myself in some hot water with my conservative bretheren... BUT... we figured out how to use hydrogen already and the byproduct it puts out is not carbon monoxide like gas... but pure, harmless water. We have heard nothing of it for some time. I wonder why?

MACS,

Producing hydrogen requires electricity. We produce electricity by burning fossil fuels. It is still more efficient and less costly to burn the fossil fuels directly in the vehicles. ..Give it time and a business case and things will happen.

The technology of using hydrogen as a fuel was proven a long time ago. The main engines of the Space Shuttle burns hydrogen.

funny that one of bush's big hooptie promises was allllllll about how he would be the alternative fuel president and support such things as hybrid cars. oops.

sorry, but the nukes and alaskan oil aren't the only alternatives. we could be doing a HELL of a lot of electricity generating with wind power and solar power -- both clean and both cheap. but it doesn't line pockets with cash -- well not big corporate pockets anyway. folks using wind and sun energy just in their own homes save a big ol' bundle, though.
