As I read my paper this morning, a picture I saw has been haunting me. Just a simple picture of one of our young service men, obviously dealing with some emotion caused by one of his buddies being injured. To you guys that I know of here that are serving, and/or have served, thank you from my very heart for the sacrifices that you have endured. We are reminded daily that the duties you perform for your country are real and dangerous!

This post is not intended for and I would appreciate it if all you "political gurus" would not turn into something other than what is intended. A hearfelt thank you. I don't claim to know squat about the whys, the whos, the why nots. I only know that we are, and these guys are the ones paying the price.

Thank you

Dave

Dave, let me be the first to say this: YOU'RE WELCOME!

I joined the military when I was 17 to get away from the "projects". Nothing really "honorable" in that. But I have continued my career because over the years I have met people who tell me how much they appreciate the service the military performs.

So, Thank YOU.

Shawn

Our great country and our lives would not be what they are today without all of the hard work, thankless duties, long absences from loved ones, sacrifice, and yes, fear in an 18 year old young man's life (away from home for the first time) of our mighty U.S. Military!!!

God Bless the U.S. of A. and thank you for serving our country!

Proud to be an American.................Marla

Comments are appreciated. Sadly I'm out of uniform as of 02/04 after 32+ years of total military service. And I say sadly because I have loved the service to my Country as much as I have love anything. MacArthur probably said it best when he addressed the graduates of West Point in a commencement speech.......our allegence has always been, and will always be, to "duty, honor, country" in that order. I live in a little town called Decatur, AL. It's named for Commodore Stephen Decatur of revolutionary war genre. A quote of his has meant a lot to me. It goes, "My Country, may she ever be right, but, right or wrong, my Country." I think a lot of people forget at times that "right or wrong" it's still your country. You hope she's right, but it's still your country, even if she isn't.

Just my thoughts............

Our very way of life hinges on the bravery and sense of duty of kids that most of us wouldn't let change the oil on our car. The hell of it is that it works. This is certainly not an insult. I was once one of those kids and my oldest is serving now.
