I have a new contest to propose if anyone is interested.
How about the first 10 people
that post their cbid handle and a stock symbol of their choice (either NYSE or Nasdaq please)AFTER NOON ON FRIDAY!!!

The stock must be selling for at least $1.00 a share
No duplicate picks,,, first to pick it gets it

I will then document the selling price of each persons stock (from my Datek account site) after market close that day and post those numbers here.
In 30 days I will get the selling price again, and the stock with the largest PERCENTAGE (%) of gain wins.
I was thinking that the losers could each send the winner 2 premiums each.
Anyone interested or have any other suggestions?
If not,
Noon on Friday 4-16-04 is the earliest date to post your choice.
I will be the 11th person and will choose last.

Your contest sounds interesting. A rule I would add is that the stocks must be listed on the NYSE - No NASDAQ or OTC Bulletin Board only stocks. Just my two cents.

I see your point on the OTC stocks but I am curious why you feel the Nasdaq should be ruled out?
Thanks for your input...

I should have been more specific. Most stocks on the OTCBB and NASDAQ trade on far less volume than NYSE listed shares, so price volatility is an issue. Also, there are a lot more low price stocks on OTCBB and NASDAQ so small price moves can create large percentage changes.

Theoretically the person choosing a low price NASDAQ stock could influence its movement simply by purchasing a few shares near the end of the contest, especially if he or she already owns some of the shares.

It would be nearly impossible for one person to buy enough shares to influence the price movement of a NYSE stock - Bill Gates and Warren Buffet would be exceptions, but they probably aren't going to enter the contest anyway.

On another note, would you allow short-selling? After all, a gain is still a gain no matter how you get there.

I'm not playing because I know nothing about the stock market but the idea of someone buying stocks to up the value of the stock just to win a cigar contest is hilarious, and yet, on this board not far fetched.

I guess there is more to take into consideration than I first thought...
I think I'll just chalk this up to a learning experience and let it go till I have resaerched it more and can make it more fair...
I will try and come up with something else.
Thanks for the input all.
