Are La Aurora Preferidos REALLY as good as the price says?

They are sometimes. I find them very inconsistent. C.A. did a taste test recently and said they have an 'unpleasant weedy note', which knocked down the rating. I don't really know what a 'weedy note' is, but it sounds real bad. bill

"Weedy Note"? Sounds like something you roll and smoke to me! Never had one and was a bit curious about the price! Charlie

I've seen the high prices for them and have never bought one myself, but I was gifted a couple of them and find them to be excellent cigars, great construction, loads of flavorful smoke, and having a long finish...Definitely worth trying once..I like them A LOT but can't find the nerve to pay $9-$12 for one of the sticks.

When I first tried them, they were definatly weedy and a bit harsh. A strong peppery flavor dominated. I've set a couple down for about 8 months now and I would say they are a nice flavorful smoke. Not worth the price, but a nice smoke.

The hard to roll shape has a bearing on it's price, but that tasty, toothy and veinless Cameroon wrapper is a BIG factor as well as the filler. This is one of my all time favorites and I gifted myself with a sampler (again) for X-mas 2001. Damn, I think I'll have one tonight! The way I see the price I'll pay on these or others as a rule is, half of MSRP. The price I see them quote on MSRP for the #3's a few $ less than I have seen in smoke shops. Same for #2's. I have seen them for $16 for #1, $14 for #2 and $12 for #1. 50% of that total for 2 of each is $42 + $4 S&H $46. Expensive, yet just like momma said, prostitutes are like a box of chocolates... the good ones cost a little more.
