Guys, it seems as though my life is now turning in yet another direction. Seeing my little boys growing up has led me to re-evaluate my shortcomings and vices; therefore, my current cigar collection will now be frozen and allowed to fade away with special occasions. Also, I am becoming evermore engulfed into my weight-training/diet and as the saying goes "put sh%t in, get sh%t out". Seeing as I've unintentionally only smoked 1 cigar over the past 3 weeks, I believe I have already begun the transformation involuntarily. Hell, I haven't gotten a "good buzz" from drinking in over a year at least.......LOL.......I'm going clean and sober and I'm not even an alcoholic!
Just quiting everything has gotten me through the sleep deprivation, and I feel so much better physically.......not to mention, I'm lifting a house now......I have actually lost weight while getting much stronger!

Boy, I sure could use a cold beer!!!!!LOL

At least my remaining sticks are only super-premiums/ISOMs!

I will still poke my nose in here from time to time for some political sparing;)

Sonny,

Just remember the old saying "everything in moderation". An occasional beer or cigar as a treat or a reward will only make those things much more special. While I probably smoke more cigars than I should, my alcohol intake has really declined over the years. I haven't "quit" but I don't drink beer just to kill time or whenever I sit in front of the TV.

agreed, everything in moderation. That being said, have you visited the trades board lately? Offer your remaining sticks for whatever you want. Toys or books for the kids, stuff for your or mamma.

What ever you decide to do, more power to you.

Keep the faith!

Good luck with it, but think of this: YOU'LL BE BACK!!!
Hopefully not though for your sake (if it's really what you want). It just seems I go through phases like that but always come back (I completely know what it's like to have ONE little drink affect you!!).

The way I think of cigars: I only do one or two a week. My friends and I see them as being good for the mind. Think of it, you really relax and enjoy doing nothing while having a good cigar. Surely this leads to stress reduction?! Sure, my friends and I have a firm grip on reality. Haha.

Good luck though.

I too, have cut back severely on the alcohol, but I still enjoy the cigars too much. My son is 15 and he hates that I smoke, but he isn't small and impressionable. Good luck to you.

Good luck with your decision...

Save some good ones and "treat" yourself every now and then...

Also have had to cut back seriously on the slcohol and can't say I've missed it that much. Damn sure feel better at work the next day. A good gar and a club soda with lime has enough bite that you think you're drinking something. Wouldn't want to quit gars and especially not at the same time. What the hell, who wants to live forever. For perspective I'm 52.

Good luck. I understand where you are coming from...to a degree. With my 3 girls still growing up, they have become more aware of their surroundings.

When they see my wife and I having a glass of wine at dinner, they ask what it is. Our prohibitive culture gives allure to those things one cannot have. when kids see tobacco and alcohol being consumed by their parents, they wonder what makes it so good, and what is so good about it, that they aren't allowed to partake.

We have reached the point where our kids know it exists, but we carefully measure our consumption in their presence. Anymore, when i enjoy my rewards for my success (cigars) I enjoy them by myself, or with friends....never in the presence of my kids.

I suppose cigars might hinder one's athletic performance. Just look at the mess Arnold Schrartznegger is! Enjoy your new found hobbies and quality of life.

Good Luck Buddy. My alcohol consumption has decreased to the point now where I go months without a drink but gars well 3 - 10 a day. I hear ya on the kids. My wifes does not like me smoking around them and maybe I shouldn't but that's real hard when I take them fishing or for a hike in the woods.

How can a guy who basically likes the same cigars as I do walk away? OhmyGawd, I would go into withdrawals and shakes without a cigar or two a day!

Sorry to see the decision made, but always remember we are BOTL and I will think about you as I light up a Joya de Nic or Partagas Black! Maybe you should treat yourself to a cigar every now and then, but that is your decision not mine.....Good luck!

Sparring mate, Charlie
